The return of perhaps the greatest ever WCW champion – Goldberg to the WWE was embraced by wrestling fans all over the world. It all started with a rumour that was making frequent rounds in the media over the past few months.
While everyone loved the idea of the celebrated Goldberg going head-on with perhaps the most dominant superstar in the history of the WWE, Goldberg’s history with the company made things difficult. It is no longer a rumour or a dream, however, as Goldberg has indeed made his much-awaited return.
However, the latest such rumour might not be accepted with the same vigour by the WWE Universe.
If latest rumours are to be believed, Roman Reigns is still in the running to be the face of the industry, with plans to take on the iconic Goldberg at the greatest stage of them all – Wrestlemania 33! However, this would mean that the ‘1’ in 21 - 1, Brock Lesnar, is going to face defeat at the hands of the 49-year-old veteran.
Inferences can also be made through that about the nature of Brock’s long term alignment with the WWE.
Roman Reigns, on the other hand, is in a tricky situation in his career. He has somehow managed to win back the trust of the fans through his storyline with Rusev over the United States Championship. Boos have turned into cheers, but the situation has not become rock-solid for another main-event push just yet.
The WWE Universe was disappointed in the past by the brand’s decision to push Roman Reigns in a manner close to Brock Lesnar, even more than Cena. Such a stipulation (vs Goldberg) might yet bring back memories that are still only buried in shallow grounds.
An alternate view could also be that these two heavy-weight masters of the ‘Spear’, can also give fans the fight of a lifetime, with Reigns expected to take the mantle of the ‘most impactful’ version of the move from the one who made it popular in the first place.
Whether you’re excited about this ‘could-be’ match or not, these are definitely exciting times ahead with the current storyline and the prospect of how it will unfold. Brock Lesnar is in the form of his life, while Goldberg, with all of his invincible aura, is competing against time to get back to top shape to face the beast!
There is one definite winner amidst everything, for now, that is the WWE Universe!
