SK’s Take: Philadelphia out of the running for WrestleMania 35?

Philly could be out of the running

There’s been a great deal of speculation regarding what city will host WrestleMania 35 in 2019, and after reading between the lines, we feel like the answer to this question has all but been confirmed.

WWE just concluded a brief 15-minute press conference at Philadelphia City Hall, which featured Mark Henry & Bayley alongside several important personnel related to the city. The purpose of the event was to officially declare this week as ‘Royal Rumble week’, due to the fact that the company is going to be hosting four events there over the next few days.

However, as we’ve known for a while now, Philadelphia has also been rumoured to be one of the two finalists in the running to be the host city of Mania 35. So when Philly mayor Jim Kenney officially stated that he’d “love to host a WrestleMania one day”, that sounded to us like Philly were no longer in the running.

With the Rumble being just a few days away this would’ve been the perfect time and place to make the WM35 announcement, and considering that recent reports have suggested this week will be when the world discovers the host’s location, it seems obvious to us that Philly is no longer a contender.

With that in mind, our focus now turns towards New York/New Jersey, which was the other potential host that has been continually mentioned over the last few months. MetLife Stadium held WrestleMania 29 back in 2013 and was apparently set to host WM34 until New Orleans came in with an eleventh-hour bid, and now, the pathway may well be clear for them to announce 35 in the coming days.

This is by no means confirmation that MetLife Stadium will be where WrestleMania 35 takes place, but it’s the most concrete evidence we’ve had for quite some time now. In our opinion, all signs are pointing towards New Jersey/NYC right now and that’s where we’d place our bets.
