365 days ago today, WWE revealed the Slammy awards for 2015 and it was to no one’s surprise when the coveted Superstar of the Year award was won by Seth Rollins.

Rollins had dominated the WWE for the better part of that year, coming out as the best positioned among the Shield members post-split, winning the Money in the Bank ladder match, dominating Dean Ambrose in their Shield breakup aftermath matches and finally winning the WWE Championship under the backing of the Authority.

Rollins collected the Slammy award on crutches, having relinquished his title after tearing multiple knee muscles at a live event two months previously.

While WWE’s 2K series might be a big hit with the fans owing to its incredible user experience, the earlier professional wrestling video games are incomparable to the current versions – Take a look at WWF Rage in Cage which was released in 1993 and was the first WWF game to feature actual video footage.

Featuring 20 wrestlers including the likes of Bret Hart, Randy Savage and the Undertaker, the 16-bit game had a standard match, a no holds barred match, a tournament mode and a steel cage match.

There were no tag team modes available, but the 20-wrestler roster would remain the biggest to be released in a game for six years.

#3 Road Dogg wins the Hardcore title – 21st December 1998

The New Age Outlaws were the most popular tag team in the WWE during the late 90s and while Road Dogg and Billy Gunn had five tag team title reigns, they also dabbled in singles wrestling occasionally.

On the December 21, 1998 episode of Raw, Road Dogg took on the Hardcore champion Big Boss Man for the title. Despite being completely dominated by the Bossman, Road Dogg would pull off the unlikely victory when Mankind interfered to take out the Champion.

Road Dogg would hold on to the title for two months before vacating it.
