#2 Bret Hart wins WCW title – 21 November 1999
On 21 November 1999, WCW presented the Mayhem PPV from Air Canada Center in Toronto, Canada. The show was headlined by the final three matches in a tournament to crown a new WCW World Heavyweight Champion.
Bret Hart, Sting, Chris Benoit and Jeff Jarett would be the final four in the tournament and the title decider would come down to Hart vs Benoit. In the event, Hart would beat the ‘Rabid Wolverine’ via submission to win the WCW Championship.
Hart winning the title was supposed to herald a turnaround for WCW’s fortunes, but he would soon be forced to retire from pro wrestling after suffering a concussion and WCW would subsequently fold in 2001.
