Three new matches added to WWE Battleground

After tonight’s RAW, we have three more matches going into this Sunday’s Battleground pay-per-view event. One of them is a big deal, playing into the main storyline in WWE right now. The other two are mostly throw-away, unfortunately for one of them.

First up, the pre-show match has been announced as Dolph Ziggler vs Damien Sandow.

It’s unfortunate that this will be on the pre-show, as most won’t see it, and that shouldn’t be the case. Ziggler and Sandow are two of the best and brightest young stars in WWE, and they are being cast-off to the side.

Just a couple of months ago, Ziggler was the World Heavyweight Champion. Now, he can’t even get booked on the PPV. WWE seems really hell-bent on shunting Ziggler down the card after having a really hot year in 2012 and spending the first part of 2013 on fire as well.

Dolph Ziggler

Unfortunately for Ziggler, he cut that interview where he slammed Randy Orton, one of WWE’s “golden boys”, and he’s paying the price for it.

WWE have made claims that it’s because they don’t see him as a major star, but fans and Ziggler’s peers both know otherwise.

On the other side of the coin, Sandow is the current MITB briefcase holder, which all but guarantees he is a future World Champion. Since winning the case, Sandow has been on a losing streak, not looking like a strong threat to the World title picture at all.

Daniel Bryan went through the same thing and is now a top star, so I am hoping Sandow receives a similar fate, but time will tell.

The second match is a WWE Divas Championship bout, with AJ Lee defending her belt against Brie Bella. Brie did approximately zero to earn a title match, and is really only being given the match because she and Daniel Bryan officially got engaged a few days ago.

Overall, this is just another installment in the current storyline that has AJ Lee looking to defeat everyone on the Total Divas cast and means very little in the long run.

Lastly, it was announced that Cody and Dustin Rhodes (w/Dusty Rhodes in their corner) will take on WWE Tag Team Champions Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins in a non-title match.

There is a stipulation in this match that, if the Rhodes boys win, both of them get new contracts with WWE.

However, if they lose, not only will they both never be offered a job in WWE again, but Dusty will lose his job with NXT as well.

Expect the Rhodes boys to come out on top, as Cody has been looking at a push for a while now, and this would be the perfect time for WWE to pull the trigger.
