Top five WWE rumors of the week and analysis: 18 July, 2018

Big plans for AJ

The upcoming week is going to be a historic one for WWE. They are bringing back the brand split and ahead of it, we will also have the drafts. The fans are eager to know the Superstars that are going to end up on both Raw and SmackDown and at the same time, everyone is eager to know the six NXT superstars that are going to get their call up to the main roster.

While there was this constant buzz about the upcoming drafts, there were also certain rumors that were making the rounds on the internet. As usual, we are going to take a look at the best ones from the lot and analyze them in this list.

Big plans for Randy Orton

Orton vs. Styles?

Randy Orton is all set to face off against Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. The USADA flagging Brock Lesnar has pushed matters into an abyss of uncertainty. But no matter what happens with Lesnar and Orton at SummerSlam, Orton is expected to make his return to the WWE programming before the match.

According to the rumors, WWE is planning to pit Orton up against AJ Styles as a returning feud. Orton vs. AJ Styles is bound to create buzz, but this happening before SummerSlam might sound like a bad decision since AJ is currently working with John Cena ahead of Battleground. But if WWE is planning this feud for this after SummerSlam, it could turn out to be good.

John Cena’s stock falling?

What does the draft hold for Cena?

There is a rumor making rounds about how the stock of John Cena is falling in the WWE. Cena has been taking up a lot of outside projects recently and this has sparked a rumor within the company that Cena is no longer fit to carry SmackDown forward. Building SmackDown around John Cena was the initial plan, as everyone felt that the drawing power of John Cena will benefit the show.

This assumption has taken a major turn due to the above-mentioned factor. Now, it will be interesting to see if WWE will keep Cena on SmackDown or change their plans in the final minute and let Cena stay on Raw.

SummerSlam and Battleground plans

Ambrose might lose the title soon

WWE had plans of taking away the WWE championship from Dean Ambrose. Either Roman Reigns or Seth Rollins was scheduled to win the championship from Ambrose at Battleground which in turn would have set up a Reigns vs. Rollins match for SummerSlam. This plan has apparently changed due to the Reigns situation.

Also, don’t expect Battleground to be a great show as WWE is only seeing it as a build up to SummerSlam which means that all the big moments will be saved for the latter rather than playing out in the former.

No plans to sell WWE

WWE has a good valuation

The $4 Billion sale of UFC has sparked off a lot of rumors which suggest that Vince McMahon is looking to sell WWE as well. Vince McMahon, meanwhile, has no plans whatsoever of selling WWE.

The huge valuation of UFC was the main reason why everyone started looking at the possible sale of WWE and if Vince is indeed looking to sell the promotion, the value is expected to be around the $3 billion mark.

Elsewhere, Shane McMahon is not expected to stay as a regular character on the WWE television. This is apparently the reason why WWE went with the two-tier authority system where there will be a commissioner and a general manager so that Shane and Stephanie could take time off when they want.

Vince low on Roman Reigns

Things are not going his way

Vince McMahon being too high on Roman Reigns was a problem for most of the WWE Universe members. Although Reigns busted his rear, fans felt that he was being shoved down the throats when it should’ve happened naturally. This idea might’ve finally reached Vince. Before the wellness policy violation, Vince had started to realize the same and now that Reigns is suspended, expect changes in the booking of Reigns.

Vince is looking to give such a push to someone else and the front runner to get it is AJ Styles. AJ has been on an impressive run since his debut and Vince thinks that he could be a major star for one of the brands.
