WWE News: Undertaker to make more appearances ahead of retirement

The Undertaker returned to SmackDown with a grave warning for the roster

The 900th episode of SmackDown saw the return of the Undertaker to WWE for the first time since WrestleMania. Given that ‘Taker is now in the twilight of his career, it was a welcome experience to see him again inside the squared circle in a segment that sent shivers down the spine of every WWE fan.

Rumours suggest that next year’s WrestleMania at Orlando may be the Undertaker’s last. In fact, there were reports that Taker was done after this year. However, WWE somehow managed to convince him for make an appearance at the grandest stage of them all one last time.

There are also rumours that Team SmackDown might lose the traditional 5 on 5 men’s Survivor Series matchup and the Undertaker will start a feud with the man responsible for the loss. On the last episode of SmackDown, Taker made it clear that there would be hell to pay for the man who would prove to be the weak link in Team SmackDown. The rumour mills have churned out matchups that involve AJ Styles going up against the Undertaker at the Royal Rumble which happens to be in Taker’s home state of Texas next year.

The Undertaker will probably stay back for one final showdown at WrestleMania against none other than John Cena. WWE wanted to have this match at WrestleMania 32 but the plans did not come to fruition due to Cena’s shoulder injury. Given the time that the two men have been in the company, they have never crossed paths at WrestleMania. Cena might just be the most suitable person to give Undertaker the grand sendoff that he so truly deserves. And what better place to do it than WrestleMania.

Over the past couple of years, the Undertaker has been embroiled in a rather intense feud with Lesnar that led to his streak being conquered by the Beast at WrestleMania XXX. This was followed by two more matches with Lesnar at SummerSlam and Hell in A Cell last year. In fact, Taker’s match with Lesnar at Hell In Cell won the SLAMMY award for match of the year.

That being said, the fans may never get to see the highly anticipated matchup between Sting and the Undertaker. A few months ago, Sting, on Legends with JBL, revealed that he was holding off neck surgery for one last match with Taker. However, given the scheme of things, Sting vs. Undertaker at WrestleMania may be one of those dream matches that WWE failed to capitalise on.
