What have we learnt with Paige's time on WWE's main roster

Ever since WWE changed the name of FCW to NXT and ever since it started streaming the event online and on television in some countries, there has been one name that remained on everyone’s list of the next best performer to make a move to the main roster. And of all the future superstars it has in store, it was a diva who stood out above them all. As time passed by the excitement surrounding her character only got stronger and question of why she wasn’t making her debut on Raw only got more and mre takers for answers. Her popularity in NXT was palpable. She did not particularly start out as a winner.

She’s had her moments of just jobbing to other divas but that did not last long and her rise was just inevitable. The presence of the likes of her and Emma made the WWE management introduce the NXT Divas Championship. And soon, as a testament to the rising attention to her, she won and today she is a holder of two titles in the WWE. How many women can stake claim to such an achievement, past or present?

Paige started wrestling when she was 13. THIRTEEN. And travelled around the world on her own by the time she was 14. The first time she tried out for the WWE, it did not work out as she tried to fit into WWE’s archetype diva look. But the next time she came for a tryout she came in as herself and the way we know her now. Pale skin, dark hair and piercings. She stood out since her first few days. Her black attire and her complete contrasting appearance to the rest of the divas made her ‘anti-diva’ persona fit perfectly with her.

She debuted on raw in a big, big way. We all know that. And her match against Alicia Fox was better than many short divas bouts on Raw. It is incredible to note that the crowd did not chant anything unnecessary and there was some pin drop silence before Paige broke that with a thunderous kick to Alicia Fox. And while many diva matches in the WWE have consisted of divas constantly yelling at each other and uselessly grunting during moves which look anything but impressive, whenever Paige screamed it looked quite aggressive. And slowly and steadily her character is getting the attention of the fans. And THAT scorpion crosslock submission move is A.) better than the Paige Turner which she almost botched on her debut on Raw and B.) it looks better and more painful than the Black Widow, which in its own right is a unique and great move.

Right Now, Paige is seen as the new kid in school, learning the politics of this environment as she moves along. And as AJ Lee is out for an indefinite amount of time, Paige’s matches and her promos in AJ Lee’s absence gives the audience time to realize how dangerous Paige can be and how perfect/not perfect she was for breaking AJ Lee’s reign and when AJ Lee does return, it gives the divas division a bout of equals and a bout between two WRESTLERS.

But while we cherish/hate that memory there is one observation that should stand as a testament to her presence in the WWE if she gets insanely popular anytime soon. That observation is this- While many or all divas are introduced to the roster as a sidekick to a male wrestler, Paige made her debut to quite a great reaction on her own and she seems to be on her way ON HER OWN. WWE believed in her enough to do this.

Trish Stratus started out wit Test and Albert, Lita with Essa Rios and then an equal one third of Team Xtreme and then and then she moved on to Edge, AJ Lee started out with Bryan, then Kane , then Punk, then Cena and then Ziggler. Even Chyna started out as the body guard for Triple H and then became part of DX.

The fans are asked to believe in the Shield and quite recently they are now told to believe in Evolution but with time it seems they will also believe in Paige!
