The Undertaker belongs to that specimen of superstars who only come out of their grave during the WrestleMania season. And though his return was ridiculously delayed this time around, Taker finally made the comeback and literally handpicked his next opponent through the table.
As always what that leaves the WWE fans with is a question which has been haunting them for more than a decade now.
Will the Undertaker’s streak end this year?
For someone who doesn’t follow Vince McMahon’s promotion on a regular basis, Brock Lesnar is the biggest threat that could’ve being out there for the Phenom. Taker is a battered old man who has many physical problems on his back while Lesnar is a beast that’s torn apart everyone that was thrown at him.
Taker will be no match to Lesnar on the paper and the vague followers will jump in and say that Lesnar will be the one to end Taker’s streak.
Well, we know that the Wrestling business doesn’t work that way don’t we?
Streak Ender ? Nops
The only reason why the company decided to throw in Lesnar into the match was to serve two main purposes.
1) To have a big enough name to pit against Undertaker
2) To make look Taker as the underdog and convince that Lesnar is a legitimate threat for the streak (Not enough to fool us though)
As you might’ve already notice, there is nothing about breaking the streak in that as Lesnar is only confined to being a threat. And why doesn’t WWE want to give Lesnar the honor?
Well its simple, no one would want to give such a big achievement to a part time old wrestler who doesn’t want to stay with WWE on a regular basis. The company will have no benefits whatsoever from a Lesnar win and they would also be left with a dead golden goose in their hand to make matter worse.
So answering one question leads to another, will the streak ever end then?
Obviously it will, simply because every good thing must come to an end and no one wants to see such an illustrious run in the sports entertainment business being packed up and taken home by Taker once he retires.
It’s only a matter of when and who.
Ageing to the core
The when factor will be the most concerning one for Taker and the company since the dead man is slipping into the abyss of physical trauma with every year. He has had surgery for almost every part in his body to look alive at the time of WrestleMania. However something which works in favor of Taker is that fact that he is so close to the 25 mark.
At the rate of Wrestling once in a year, Taker could carry himself for a couple of matches as well setting the streak at 24-0 making the 25th match the ideal setting for the streak to break.
Ending Taker’s streak on such an imperfection will be written into the rich history of professional wrestling as one of the best decisions ever made. At 54 during that time, Taker could also head into retirement and give his body a well-deserved rest.
And in order for that to materialize we would need three wrestlers with the last one being the streak breaker.
There are two big names currently in the roster that “should” face Taker in that limit and is worth of ending his career, Daniel Bryan and John Cena. Only Cena or Bryan should be given the luxury of ending the streak as it could stamp their names further in the folklore.
Though honorable mentions roll out to Bray Wyatt and Roman Reigns, they still wouldn’t be ready in three years to end the streak, (but you never know).
Needs a WrestleMania moment before the end
This leaves us with one more name to fill in the card, and there won’t be anyone better to choose than Kurt Angle. Angle is sure to return to WWE once his contract expires and the best way to cap off his career would be to lose out to Undertaker at WrestleMania.
So the company could set, Kurt Angle as the 23rd victim leaving either John Cena or Daniel Bryan to be the 24th one with the other being the streak ender. With age taking the toll on Taker, this is the best way that they could end his career instead of stretching it out and making a mess of one of the best things that ever happened to the professional wrestling business.
