Will Survivor Series 2013 manage to maintain its credibility as a major PPV?

Survivor Series

The Survivor Series 2013 card is almost done and raring to go with the final touches to be added on SmackDown this week. Despite all the drama and action over the past two weeks over how great the episodes of RAW have been, one can’t wait but ask if the Survivor Series card is really impressive.

Yes, RAW has been interesting for the past few weeks and WWE has definitely stepped up as far as delivering on a weekly basis is concerned. But has WWE messed things a bit too much in search of momentary glory? In a bid to up its RAW ratings, it definitely feels as though WWE has managed to put itself in a position where it has to settle to a rather mediocre Survivor Series card.

RAW this week was a typical example of how WWE Creative has burnt its resources before the PPV and are currently stuck in a dumb daze as to what they need to do next.

To start with, the WWE title match can be cited as an excellent example. Rather than going for a Big Show vs Triple H match, WWE somehow feels Show going for the title makes more sense. Giving this a deeper thought it makes me feel as though Hunter really wants to have that title around his waist one last time, planning to take it away from Big Show after he has beaten Triple H’s puppet Randy Orton two or three times in insignificant matches over the next few months. Irrespective of how things pan out in the future for now the WWE title match in Survivor Series is a mere formality. Instead of building the match last night on RAW, WWE used a potential Wrestlemania moment of Ryback Shellshocking Big Show to boost ratings. Clearly an indication that the creative team is out of gas.

Next, the John Cena saga continues just as everyone expected it to. There is no way that Cena will lose to Del Rio in his match this Sunday even if Del Rio managed to rip his arm apart. I guess WWE wants to take the SuperCena gimmick to a new level by showing that Cena can beat opponents even with a broken hand. The build up to the match has been terrible and it goes to show WWE’s carelessness over the World Heavyweight title. Just because Cena holds the title doesn’t necessarily mean that it will gain significance. There is still some work that needs to be put in behind it and frankly WWE hasn’t done anything decent to make this match look compelling.

Daniel Bryan and CM Punk vs the Wyatt Family. The main event this week was one of the best TV matches WWE has produced in a year and I am in no way against such happening. But has WWE gone a bit too far with the conception of providing top notch TV matches? I mean wouldn’t this have been an excellent match at Survivor Series? Apart from helping viewers cling on to the RAW episode this week the match hasn’t managed to make Survivor Series an interesting PPV which should have been the main aim of the show. After what Punk and Bryan accomplished this week it is a foregone conclusion that they will emerge victorious on Sunday. Maybe to spice things up WWE might want to give Wyatts the win courtesy some help from the Shield. Now will that bring even the tiniest bit of excitement in the crowd? I guess not. We have seen enough interference in PPV’s already.

The Miz vs Kofi Kingston was a bolt from the blue. The inclusion of this match goes to show WWE’s hapless condition right now. I mean where did this come from? A PPV match without any sort of build up at all? There is only one way Survivor Series 2013 is heading and its down into the abyss. Big E Langston won the Intercontinental Title from Curtis Axel which can be regarded as a last minute WWE effort to create some sort of interest among viewers as far as the IC title is concerned. But who cares? The IC title has fallen far below recovery in my opinion.

All in all, the Survivor Series 2013 card can be regarded as one of the worst booked PPV of year and is all set to make news as the worst Survivor Series PPV in history. It is surprising how WWE with so much talent manages to come up with a card that only focuses on the WWE title.

As far as I see it, the RAW after Survivor Series will generate greater anticipation than Survivor Series itself. Will Survivor Series 2013 manage to maintain its credibility as a major PPV? Well, the answer is right here folks.
