Top 5 possible return angles for John Cena

Well, that’s a WrestleMania moment

The 15 time world champion, John Cena, is scheduled to make his return next week on RAW. A lot has already happened this past week on RAW and the battle lines have been drawn for the upcoming PPV. It becomes all the more important now for John to fit in the right frame for his return to be of any effect. There are a range of possibilities the creative team could explore and make John a part of it but as part of this slideshow, I present you 5 possible return angles for John Cena on his return to the squared circle-

Continue from where he left off: The US title

It’s a good pick. Isn’t it?

It was great for the championship when someone like John Cena held on to the US title for a fairly long time. John Cena won the US title at WrestleMania 31 by defeating Rusev in a great match after which, had also been pretty impressive with his ‘US Title Open Challenges’ by giving opportunities to youngsters on the roster.

His last match before he was out due to injury was against Alberto Del Rio at ‘Hell in a Cell’. He took the title to a new level and afforded younger talent screen time and opportunity while he was at it.

With the new era taking the lead these days, there is every reason to guess that Cena could come back and reclaim the US Title, thereby picking up where he left off.

Be a part of the MITB ladder match and win the briefcase

Perfect opportunity?

Last week on RAW, 5/7 slots for the MITB ladder match have been filled and there is still room for 2 guys to compete in this match. There is every reason to believe that Cena could be a part of this match and win the contract.

He absolutely has no storylines to go with as of now and so the creative could think of putting Cena in such a match as it would help him in securing a future title shot as and when required. It is a given that Cena would win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the future for the record 16th time and what better way could he do it than earning a chance now itself!

Major feud

This is definitely not a bad idea!

Now that Aj Styles was not a part of the ladder match, it is safe to assume that John will be taking on Aj sometime soon. He could also compete against Randy Orton or Bray Wyatt or even Big Cass. A major feud with John would be a benefit to the opponent as he gets a big push on the roster and at the same time allow some settling space for Cena to get up to speed with the ‘new era’ that has taken over the WWE landscape.

Make SmackDown relevant again

Save the masses, John!

Now that the brand split is official and as there are many guys who could be drafted to SmackDown, this is the right time for the company to leverage Cena’s return and use him for the upliftment of guys like Baron Corbin, Alberto Del Rio, Sheamus etc; and make them relevant. It is also important to protect the brand name and what better way to preserve it than have someone like Cena as the face of the show?

There are also rumours on the possibility of the company introducing more titles and if they really have some truth to it then, that would be awesome news. John could be fit into any of these roles and no doubt that would pay rich dividends.

Get himself involved in the title scene for the upcoming PPVs

Best for Cena’s fans but not for business at least now!

Last year at the SummerSlam PPV, John Cena's dream of winning the 16th World title was shattered by Jon Stewart – the host of the PPV.

Next day on RAW, Stewart admitted that his actions were intentional and explained that he didn't like Cena equalling the record of the legendary Ric Flair. Since then, Cena never got a fair chance to win the title. He is currently out of action and when he makes a comeback, he is bound to get a title shot in the future.

It can be assumed that Cena could win the title by the end of this year and equal Flair's record for holding the most number of World titles. With Rollins and Reigns currently pitched in the title scene though, it may take some time for John to quickly get into the title picture but once that happens, you can be sure of the outcome.
