Backstage update on Reigns and the Authority, long-term plans, Maddox tweets

An inevitable showdown beckons

- Roman Reigns was all set to earn his first singles championship at Survivor Series, but WWE’s plans took a steep turn at the very last moment as they went ahead with Sheamus’s successful cash-in.

The change of plan apparently took place at the day of the pay-per-view around noon, and WWE’s long-term plan is to have Sheamus with the title. As far as Roman Reigns goes, WWE’s decision to have a mammoth celebration prior to Sheamus’s cash-in points out to WWE eventually putting the title around Reigns’ waist.

According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the word backstage is that WWE feels the fans perceive Reigns to be a corporate pick as the champion, that has lead to the Samoan Superman being booed at TV tapings and live events.

WWE’s fix to the situation is to have the Authority keep screwing Reigns over and keep the title off his waist. They hope that this would enable the fans to get behind Roman and get him over with the crowd completely.

WWE’s top brass wants to make sure that the WWE Universe is firmly behind Reigns before they anoint him their undisputed face. Sympathy is the main plot in the journey of building Reigns as the company’s flagbearer and the WWE direly hope that it does work.

WWE seems to be replicating the booking that catapulted Daniel Bryan to WrestleMania glory by garnering sympathy towards the protagonist. In Bryan's case, it worked wonders, but whether it work this time around when it comes to Roman Reigns is to be seen.

As far as Triple H’s WrestleMania 32 plans go, Roman Reigns looks like a safe bet to face off against the Cerebral Assassin at the show of shows. With the Rock being ruled out and Rollins’ injury, Triple H is out of options.

Roman Reigns, thus, is the most probable opponent for the Game and from what transpired at Survivor Series, Reigns vs Triple H is the most likely match to be penciled in for the show in Dallas.

- It was noted earlier that Brad Maddox got fired by the WWE for using foul language while cutting a dark match promo at WWE’s TV tapings. The promo backfired on the former RAW GM as he was given the boot for using the words ‘cocky pricks’.

He posted a tweet post his exit on the occasion of Thanksgiving. He was also thankful for the fact that Carolina Panthers (the team that he supports) won against Dallas Cowboys and stated that he really needed the win to up his morale.
