WWE Battleground 2013 - Five Point Preview

WWE Battleground

The Battleground 2013 card isn’t the most impressive ones that WWE has put together this year. Take away a few exceptions the PPV is nothing but Night of Champions revisited. But that doesn’t take away the possibility of this PPV adding to the list of successful shows WWE has had this year and the writers can refrain from the mistakes they made at Night Of Champions.

With Battleground being the first PPV of the month, WWE needs to make sure that it comes up with storyline twists that can help build an exciting card for Hell in the Cell.

Here’s the match card for Battleground 2013

Damien Sandow vs. Dolph Ziggler

Bray Wyatt vs. Kofi Kingston

Brie Bella vs. AJ Lee (Divas Championship)

Ryback vs. CM Punk

Curtis Axel vs. R-Truth (Intercontinental Championship)

The Shield vs. Cody Rhodes and Goldust

Alberto Del Rio vs. Rob Van Dam (World Heavyweight Championship)

Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton (WWE Championship)

Without further ado let us look at the 5 point preview of Battleground 2013.

1. Will Triple H cost Daniel Bryan the title again?

Daniel Bryan has been denied the WWE Championship twice despite winning both his matches on successive PPVs. Could Bryan surprise everyone again and win the title at Battleground? Or will Triple H again favor the one he considers the face of the company to get the title?

The chances of Daniel Bryan winning are pretty low as the feud needs to progress until Survivor Series after which WWE can create a rift between Triple H and Bryan. For now we can either expect Triple H or Big Show to play a role in the match and cost Daniel Bryan the title once again. WWE can then go ahead and set up a rematch at Hell in a Cell and further Bryan’s fight against the corporation.

2. Will we see a new World Heavyweight Champion?

In Battleground there is every chance that we can see a new champion. With Del Rio and RVD sqauring off against each other in a Hardcore match unlike last time Del Rio will have to put RVD down for good to walk out as the champion.

RVD on the other hand is the one with the advantage as Hardcore matches are his specialty and having spent a lot of time in ECW, he will look to make use of his experience in this particular version of the game. Expect Del Rio to go through a hell of a beating in the hands of Mr. Monday Night.

But let me remind you, RVD isn’t the only new World Heavyweight Champ that we might see tomorrow as the title holder has a nemesis in the form of Damien Sandow. With the Money in the Bank briefcase, this match will be the right opportunity for Sandow to cash in especially as both wrestlers will be worn out from the punishment they will dish out on each other. Either way expect to see a new World Champion.

3. How will the Rhodes Brothers fare?

The Shield are the only people standing between the Rhodes Family and their future in WWE. With this being their last and final chance to live their dream the best thing we can expect here is a win in favor of the brothers. But the Hounds of Justice aren’t easy opponents as we are quite aware of their strength as a team.

The possibility of a Goldust vs Cody in the future can be well set up provided WWE gives the Rhodes a victory at Battleground. Expect this feud to carry on further until Hell in a Cell where we can expect Goldust to turn on his brother and family to make things interesting for Survivor Series.

4. Is Punk really ‘The Best in the World’?

Punk has lost two PPVs in a row and with the daunting ask of beating Ryback and to an extent Curtis Axel things don’t look too good for the Second City Saint. Will Punk be able to handle the Human Wrecking Ball?

But with that said the feud has dragged long enough for it to carry on. After Lesnar went out of the feud things haven’t had the same amount of excitement. Punk should be able to put down Ryback and beat Heyman like a rented mule. It is time Punk ended his search for revenge and moved on to bigger and better things.

5. Brie Bella strong enough to stop AJ?

It was surprising when Brie Bella was announced as AJ’s challenger at Battleground. Where did Natalya go all of a sudden? Anyway the match doesn’t have a lot of build and hence expectations are pretty low.

Brie isn’t a great worker in the ring although she has improved a lot. But expecting her to become the Divas Champion will not work out well as she is far too weak a character to do this yet. WWE should have built this feud more and then put her in a match like this. Her best role at the moment is to stand alongside Bryan after her involvement in the storyline on RAW this week.

AJ on the other hand has Tamina for help on the side and we can expect her to play a strong role in AJ’s victory.
