The SmackDown Live crew headed to Kansas City yesterday for the latest WWE Live Event. The show was headlined by a street fight between WWE World Champion AJ Styles and incumbent challenger Dean Ambrose. The SmackDown Tag-Team Championships and the SmackDown Women’s Championship were also defended on the night.

Without further ado, let’s head straight into the results from WWE Kansas City.

The Miz (C) vs Dolph Ziggler

The Miz was originally supposed to defend his WWE Intercontinental Championship in Kansas City but he had other ideas. He cut a promo before the match and announced that his lawyer had contacted him before the match and informed him that he wasn’t obligated to defend his championship that night.

The Miz was vehemently booed by the crowd before the match even began and the match itself was good, but nothing we haven’t seen from these two in recent months. The match ended with Dolph picking up the pinfall.

American Alpha, Hype Bros and Apollo Crews vs The Ascension, The Vaudevillians, and Curt Hawkins

This match wasn’t the best 10-man tag match. The match was a little sloppy in parts and The Ascension impressed with some of their tandem offence.

There wasn’t really much to say about this match and the faces picked up the win in the end.

Baron Corbin vs Jack Swagger

Baron Corbin was super over, being that Kansas City was his hometown. He beat Jack Swagger with ease with the End Of Days even though the match itself wasn't very good.

Following his win, Corbin demanded better competition since it was his hometown and out came Kalisto.

Baron Corbin vs Kalisto

Saying that Kalisto and Corbin’s impromptu match was short would be an understatement. Kalisto literally just came out and pinned Corbin with a hurracanrana-pin combination with Corbin getting no offence.

Corbin grabbed chairs from ringside after the match to remind fans that their match at TLC will be a chairs match.

Kane vs Bray Wyatt

Bray was accompanied out by Luke Harper but that wouldn’t be enough in the end.

Wyatt spent most of the match taking offence from Kane and rolling to the outside while Harper didn’t really do much at ringside. Kane won the match after reversing a Sister Abigail into a Chokeslam for the pinfall.

Heath Slater and Rhyno (C) vs Breezango (for the SmackDown Tag-Team Championships)

Breezango got a lot more time in the ring than they usually do and the two talented workers put on a good match with Rhyno and Slater.

Slater took much of the offence as usual before tagging in Rhyno who cleared house and picked up the win with The Gore.

Becky Lynch (C) vs Alexa Bliss vs Nikki Bella vs Carmella vs Natalya (for the SmackDown Women’s Championship)

We got a great fatal-5-way match for the Women’s Championship next. Nikki Bella and Becky Lynch were really over with the fans in Kansas.

The match ended with Becky retaining her title by making Alexa Bliss tap out to the Disarmer. Nikki and Becky hugged after the match to the delight of all the Bella/Becky fans in the building.

AJ Styles (C) vs Dean Ambrose (Street Fight for the WWE World Championship)

James Ellsworth was announced as the special guest timekeeper right before the match. Even though the match was deemed to be a street-fight, only chairs and a solitary kendo stick were used. The match itself was pretty good and the finish was clean, with Styles picking up the win after a Phenomenal Forearm.

AJ Styles def. Dean Ambrose

Styles tried to finish Ambrose off with a kendo stick after the match but Ellsworth came in and hit him with the No Chin Music and Ambrose followed it up with a Dirty Deeds to send the crowd home happy.
