WWE Monday Night Raw Preview: 22 August, 2016

The inaugural Universal Champion

SummerSlam proved to be a pay-per-view that got the people talking. Considering the amount of importance it carried, this was not a big surprise as well. SummerSlam saw the rise of some new champions and the transition of certain wrestlers. Thus, it would be safe to say that the show shifted the landscape of WWE programming a bit.

With all the booking decisions that happened on Sunday Night, the fans will be eager to know what WWE could come up with on Monday, making the latest edition of Monday Night Raw a must watch. Here are some of the things that WWE could address.

Fun in Midcard

Title bound?

The mid card matches from Monday Night Raw impressed at SummerSlam. Cesaro and Sheamus opened up their best of seven series with a solid match and WWE could book the second match this week on Raw and people aren’t going to complain about it. Elsewhere, the rise of Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens as a tag team was another notable part from SummerSlam.

They have the capability of being Tag team champions down the lane but there’s a catch at the same time. New Day retained their Tag team titles on Sunday, but it was through DQ and it goes to show that they have some unfinished business with Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows. The pairing up of Sami Zayn and Neville also seemed interesting and all the future of all four of these angles will be made clear on Raw.

Charlotte celebrates

Champion, again

Sasha Banks got her big moment a few weeks back on Raw and everyone expected her to remain champion for a long time. However, the championship reign of Sasha came to an end at SummerSlam as she dropped the title to Charlotte. There are rumors making rounds about Sasha picking up a back injury, but even if that is the case, the title changing hands was completely unexpected.

Charlotte has been booked strongly by WWE ever since she debuted and SummerSlam once again underlined this fact. She will be out to celebrate this week around and her near future and next opponent will be the major talking point if Sasha doesn’t show up.

The Lesnar problem

Unhinged beast

Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton had a different match at SummerSlam. I’m using the word ‘different’ here because using ‘awkward’ or ‘weird’ would certainly downgrade the bout. While many expected either Orton or Lesnar to get a clean win or even a run in from a surprise superstar, WWE went ahead with TKO win for Lesnar.

This was a reminder about the MMA background that Lesnar has and WWE once again made it clear that Lesnar is the most legit athlete that they have on the roster. Lesnar destroyed Shane McMahon in the post-match segment and he might get punished for the same this week. WWE might also indicate what they have in plans for the beast.

Roman Reigns in Beast mode

He has a score to settle with Rusev

The best way to book Roman Reigns is minimal words and more action. He was loved by the fans when he was the powerhouse of The Shield due to this factor. Last night at SummerSlam, WWE booked Reigns the right way. He was in beast mode and destroyed Rusev without uttering a word. Reigns did not get a chance to fight for the championship, but at the same time, he was projected as a man capable of delivering some damage when pushed to the limits.

The feud between Reigns and Rusev seem to be far from over and WWE will roll out the next chapter on Raw. If Reigns gets the same booking that he got at SummerSlam in the future, we can expect him to get over with the fans.

Universal champion in the house

New superman in town

The inaugural WWE Universal champion was crowned at SummerSlam when Finn Balor defeated Seth Rollins. Balor, with just weeks after making his debut, has positioned himself as the top performer on Monday Night Raw, which is rather amusing to see. The majority of the WWE Universe that complained about Reigns getting a superman push is apparently happy with the way Balor is treated, exposing the hypocrisy that exists between us, the wrestling fans.

But the real story here is Balor’s title run. Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon might give Balor a big welcome on Raw this week and at the same time, Seth Rollins will be claiming a title shot at Balor.
