Trish Stratus is a WWE legend. What was so unique about her is the fact that she came in as any other swimsuit model, hired solely for looks, but within a year or so, she picked up the business so fast and became a well-respected wrestler.
Up-and-coming main roster arrival Bayley had an interview with TrishStratus.com, where she compared her best friend, The Princess Of Staten Island, Carmella, to the WWE Hall Of Famer and legend:
“She was a little bit different as far as she didn’t come from wrestling, but neither did Trish and she came out so successfully. It sounds kind of weird but I’ve always compared Carmella to Trish because Carmella was a cheerleader and dancer, but she was so athletic and once she started training with NXT, I knew she was a hard worker and just had that natural ability.”
Carmella is currently on the Smackdown Live brand where she plays a heel persona and is currently feuding with Nikki Bella. Bayley, just like her on-screen NXT rival Sasha Banks, has been very vocal about her dreams of being a female wrestler and not a diva who did bra and panty matches.
She credited Trish Stratus, Lita, and Victoria for influencing her. She spoke regarding the former two, in particular, stating how they started off as valets, but began to get better once they started to wrestle, which made people wanted to see them wrestle and not as valets.
"It just made you realise you can be successful in WWE. You saw that they didn't just want to be arm pieces and be part of the show. They wanted to be the show. That was when I realized it was possible to be a huge name with WWE."
Bayley called Trish, Lita, and Victoria "my three girls". Bayley has also mentioned in previous interviews that she used to go to every meet-and-greet, public signings, and VIP events that she possibly could.
She had met the likes of Lita, John Cena, etc but she never had an encounter with Trish Stratus, until many years later when she was a rising star in NXT. She said that the moment she met her was at the backstage of the Axxess show for Wrestlemania XXX.
Though the two didn’t cross paths until then, Bayley did mention how much she admired Trish because of her huge personality and the fact that she was doing something that no one else in entertainment did.
Bayley said she knew that Trish had to prove a lot of people wrong to get where she did. And where she did get was a legendary status and a WWE Hall Of Fame spot.
