WWE News: Former WWE superstar Matt Sydal has been missing the past four days; latest updates on his current condition

Matt Sydal, better known as Evan Bourne in WWE

Two years ago, Matt Sydal, known as Evan Bourne in WWE, was released from his contract. He returned to the independent circuit, and in September last year, signed with New Japan Pro Wrestling(NJPW). In NJPW he has been teaming up with Ricochet primarily.

Sydal was one-third of the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship along with Ricochet and Satoshi Kojima. They were supposed to defend the title against The Young Bucks and Ring Of Honor World Champion Adam Cole on September 25th’s Destruction in Kobe. However, due to Sydal’s absence, they were stripped of the title. However, he was basically written out of the storyline. Ricochet- Sydal's tag partner, did a promo on the Young Bucks (the current IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Champions) saying that David Finlay and he would be challenging them for the belts. Matt Sydal has for now been replaced by Dave Finlay.

Ricochet, Finlay, and Satoshi Kojima won the vacant NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship. The reason stated by New Japan Pro Wrestling for Sydal having not appeared, was issues with his flight. However, there is a greater sense of concern now. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported the situation saying:

"He's disappeared off the face of the earth..the story is that he had flight trouble, which is a good story the first day when he missed the show, but it's four days now since he's supposed to arrive"

When asked on twitter if Sydal’s absence was due to injury, Meltzer said the following:

This is quite an alarming situation for New Japan Pro Wrestling and all parties involved. Sydal has been missing for four days with no word about the situation. It is highly likely that NJPW knows about what exactly is going on but is covering up for various purposes. It is likely that in the coming few days we will be getting an update, but we may not know from official sources what the exact reason for his absence for four days was. 411Mania reported that Matt Sydal is done with NJPW. But this may not be the case as even if he signed with another company, especially WWE, they still allow performers to finish up their obligated dates before joining in. However, if this is the case, then it will be very interesting. But disappearing off the face of the earth doesn’t sound like a sound way to leave a promotion. We will keep you updated on the latest in the situation.
