When SummerSlam kicked off, many fans believed they would witness the return of former WCW star Goldberg during the event due to the heavy rumors and the teaser from the star himself of a possible feud with the Beast Brock Lesnar

So when Goldberg did not show up during the event and they saw Shane McMahon coming out of the curtain following the post-match beat down by Lesnar on Rand Orton, many fans expressed their anger and started showing their displeasure through social media.

As we reported before, Even the fans in the attendance were displeased with the decision of sending out Shane McMahon and they showed their frustration after the event went off the air by booing throughout the phase where Shane McMahon took Randy Orton out of the arena.

While WWE did not recognize this backlash publicly, the former World Heavyweight Champion did apologize to his fans for not showing up during the mega event via his Twitter handle as seen in the below tweet:

However, when his apology failed to cool down the angry fans, Goldberg decided to reply to fans in their own manner and made the following tweets

It's notable here that before SummerSlam, there were substantial rumors of Goldberg returning to WWE. Even the former wrestler himself teased his return on multiple occasions prior to the event.

He was heard saying that he was in wrestling shape and also did not forget to mention how he beat Brock Lesnar during their match at WrestleMania XX. Due to this, the fans assumed that he could interrupt the match between Randy Orton vs Brock Lesnar to set up a feud between the two old rivals.

While the possibility of the former WCW star returning to the Squared Circle for one more match are not dead just yet, many fans believe that SummerSlam would have been a perfect stage to reintroduce the former champion on WWE TV and not doing so was a bad creative decision from the company.
