WWE News: Goldberg and Vince McMahon talk about the crowd in Denver

Goldberg’s return to Raw was a highly emotional one

The challenge issued by Paul Heyman on Brock Lesnar’s behalf in the October 10th episode of Raw for a match at the Survivor Series prompted Bill Goldberg to return in the following edition of the show to accept it. It was the first time in 12 years that ‘The Myth’ was making an appearance in a WWE ring.

The fans at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado, waited in anticipation all night, to see the icon’s return and the arena virtually exploded when he finally walked out to the squared circle. One could make out from Goldberg’s expressions, as the crowd chanted his name that he was overwhelmed to be present there.

In an interview with former WWE commentator Jim Ross for Fox Sports, Goldberg opened up on his feelings about the reaction from the Denver crowd. He said, “I'm a 49-year-old guy, who was humbled as I could be in Denver when I heard the reception that the fans gave me.”

“I left them on a sour note 12 years ago and now I have a chance to return and rectify it. It was very cool.”

Goldberg spoke about how the WWE had allowed him to express himself freely on the night. The Superstar was also pleased about the fact that he was able to show his wife and son the world he used to belong to. Here’s what he said:

“WWE trusted me to express myself as Bill Goldberg and not the old, superhero Goldberg. I had no script and I spoke from my heart and it felt great. The Denver Raw was the first time in wrestling that I could simply be myself and I loved it. I could die tomorrow knowing that I gave my wife and son a glimpse into the world in which I once lived.”

WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon, also spoke to Ross about the reaction of the Denver crowd to Bill Goldberg’s return and claimed that it showed the latter’s stature in the wrestling business, despite being away for more than a decade. Mcmahon said:

“The reaction to Goldberg confirmed our confidence that Bill is still not only relevant in the WWE world, his reaction was met with passionate exuberance even after a decade's absence. Bill's son has never seen him perform and Bill's wife and son were blown away with the reaction in Denver. Survivor Series is going to be on fire!”
