WWE News: Julie Real signed to developmental deal

WWE’s latest developmental recruit

Squared Circle Sirens are reporting that WWE has signed a new female to a developmental deal. Julie Real is a singer and a model, and was reported to have attended a tryout session with WWE a few months back, a session that clearly went well enough for her to be offered a deal.

The signing is an intriguing one, as on the face of it suggests that WWE is reverting to its former ways of signing models to become wrestlers as opposed to experienced wrestlers.

Real has already been training, however, learning the ropes at the wrestling school of none other than former WWE Cruiserweight Champion, The Brian Kendrick.

TBK has gained something of a reputation for improving the skills of some the lesser technically proficient females on the WWE roster, and working with such an experienced performer can only be good for a blank slate like Real.

Little more is known about Real, but reports also suggest she was been training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in California, something which would certainly stand in her good stead if she develops well in the wrestling world.

Her pre-training shows that she is clearly someone interested in evolving her skills as a wrestler as opposed to someone looking to use WWE as a launching pad for a future career in modelling or entertaining.

The signing may well be perceived negatively by sections of the audience, however, especially the hardcore fans who have long resented the model-hiring formula that served WWE for so many years.

The advances of the women’s revolution led many to belive that such a policy was simply a thing of the past, but the signing of Real suggests WWE may still have something of an open door when it comes to where they are scouting for talent.

Whilst many may be pessimistic, the improvements made by performers such as new SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss show that one doesn’t need a long independent career to be a WWE level performer now. Real is making an intense and brave career choice, and we wish her all the best. She’s one to keep an eye on.
