WWE News: Reason why all members of The Spirit Squad didn't appear on Smackdown Live

The Spirit Squad

As seen on Smackdown Live this week, two members of the Spirit Squad – Kenny and Mikey(Real names Kenneth George Doane & Michael Samuel Brendli respectively), made a return to the WWE after 8-9 years for a one-off segment with Dolph Ziggler, who was previously a member of the Spirit Squad under the name “Nicky”.

The segment was part of “Miz Tv” and was termed as Dolphumentary, which was a parody of WWE 24 episodes, focusing on the particular failures of Dolph Ziggler’s career. Kenny and Mikey ambushed Ziggler before he fought them off, and subsequently fought the Miz off as well.

There were questions as to why only two members of The Spirit Squad appeared when there should have been totally four(minus Dolph who was technically there as well). According to a report from AllWrestlingNews.com, Johnny Jetter did not appear as he has a job outside of wrestling and did not want to miss the job for the sake of an appearance. Nick Mitchell, the other member, is now said to have become very religious and now lives in Israel.

It was surprising to many that Kenny Dykstra(the name he went by after his breakup with The Spirit Squad) made an appearance, as he left the company on bad terms. He outed his then-fiancee Mickey James for having an affair with Cena while they were engaged, and this bad publicity on their top star led to his release. It left, even more questions in mind as John Cena was backstage the same night as well.

It may be possible that Cena and Kenny have made up and are now on good terms, but then again it may not be as well, and the two may simply have not had to interact. That aside, the segment was well received by the fans, especially those who grew up in the Ruthless Aggression era, as Spirit Squad were among the top heel factions when feuding with DX, who were face at that time.

The entire Dolph Ziggler-The Miz feud has been widely considered to be the best feud going on in WWE right now, and last week the feud got a whole new meaning when Ziggler challenged The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship at No Mercy by also putting his career on the line. The move was applauded for making the Intercontinental Championship extremely relevant again, and both performers have been praised for their performances.
