WWE News: Reason behind the short match between Goldberg and Brock Lesnar

2-0!

WWE pulled off one of the biggest upsets in recent memory at Survivor Series 2016 by booking Goldberg to go over Brock Lesnar. The short two-minute squash match was something no one expected, not even in their wildest of dreams as two spears and one Jackhammer was all it took to slay the Beast Incarnate.

But why did WWE book such a brief encounter after all the hype? According to sources, the reason behind the decision was Goldberg’s lack of training for the match. Goldberg revealed that he had tweaked his shoulder in an interview last week that forced WWE to take a safer route to avoid any injuries.

Goldberg signing a deal to appear at Royal Rumble may have also contributed to him squashing Brock Lesnar.

What’s interesting to note is that Goldberg became the odds-on favourite a few hours before the PPV kicked off. The change pointed out to a win for the former WCW champion and also the possibility of a blow-off match between the two behemoths.

According to Wrestlingnews.co, a rematch between Goldberg and Brock Lesnar is also in the works. The third bout is expected to take place at WrestleMania 33 with rumours of it happening as early as Royal Rumble also doing the rounds. The logic behind the quick finish could also be to garner more interest towards the inevitable rematch.

WWE signed a contract with Goldberg days after his interview with SportsCenter, which naturally didn’t give him much time to prepare for the mega match. Vince McMahon and co. would be looking to cash in on the buzz, now that Goldberg has shaken off some of the ring rust. Brace yourselves folks, the next few months are set to be a roller coaster ride.
