“The Nature Boy” Ric Flair spoke about the origins of his iconic catchphrase “Woo!”, the possibility of women entering the Royal Rumble and much more, in the latest edition of The Ric Flair show.
When asked about the origins of his catchphrase, Flair revealed that he began using it in 1974, after he heard Jerry Lee Lewis sing, “Goodness Gracious, great balls of fire, wooo!”. He went on to admit that he changed the delivery line slightly but the initial thought was from the song.
Flair also expressed his thoughts on the participation of women in the Royal Rumble. He disclosed that he is not open to the idea of women wrestling with men and hopes that the WWE do not continue the trend as it did in the past.
When questioned about the prospect of wrestling one more match with the opponent of his choice, Flair responded by saying that he would love to work alongside Cena, Reigns or Rollins. He also added that it would take him about three months to get back in shape for a match.
Flair was all praise for the Sasha vs. Charlotte feud and described it as the “hottest feud”, that he has witnessed in a long time. He also said that he is proud of Charlotte, but he is disappointed that she slapped him on RAW.
He feels sad that their personal relationship has sunk to a new low, but is confident that Charlotte will reclaim the Women’s Championship pretty soon. Flair went on to discuss the current state of WWE and proclaimed that he was sad after Becky Lynch lost the Smackdown Women’s Championship to Alexa Bliss at TLC.
He believes that Lynch will deal with this setback and return better than ever. Flair also said that he is impressed by the tag team of Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton and looks forward to their title reign.
When asked about his thoughts about the inclusion of Gene Okerlund, Daniel Bryan and The Sting into the Observer Hall Of Fame, Flair said that all of these men deserve it and can be proud of their achievement, as Dave Meltzer takes his job and publications pretty seriously.
Next, Flair was asked who hit the most painful chop over the course of his career, Flair without hesitation replied that Wahoo McDaniel had the most painful chops. Flair also revealed about the time he wanted to be a dentist, as he thought that it would be an interesting profession.
Finally, Flair was asked what the top three matches of his career were, to which he replied that the trilogy of matches alongside Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat are the top 3 that most people would have seen. He also mentioned his matches against Shawn Micheals, Triple H and The Undertaker.
