WWE News: Ring of Honor unhappy with Nigel McGuinness

Nigel McGuinness to commentate WWE’s inaugural UK Tournament

As announced on Thursday, former Ring of Honor performer/matchmaker, Nigel McGuinness will participate as a co-host for the new WWE United Kingdom Tournament alongside Monday Night RAW commentator Michael Cole.

According to a report from PWInsider, Ring of Honor, officials were not aware of McGuinness' intentions of leaving the company until this past weekend, which upset them. Just last week McGuinness had been removed from the position of company matchmaker, thus generating speculations about his eventual arrival at the WWE.

Sources stated that McGuinness had a standing offer from the WWE for a very long time, for the position of a trainer at WWE's Performance Center. ROH veteran, Steve Corino also parted ways with the company a few weeks ago, after signing with the WWE to undertake the role of a full-time trainer.

During the conference for WWE's UK tournament, after Triple H announced WWE's intentions to air a weekly show on the WWE Network featuring British talent, Michael Cole announced that McGuinness would join him in the commentary booth.

According to 411mania.com, McGuinness' resignation as ROH booker came to be due to the possibility of Steve Corino leaving the company. Reports further state that McGuinness' resignation would come in handy if he ever received an offer from the WWE.

Triple H made the announcement for the tournament at a press conference held at the O2 Arena in London. The tournament will take place on the 14th and 15th of January, and is a part of WWE's initiative to expand worldwide.

“Our passionate U.K. fans deserve to have their own Champion. The tournament is the next step in our ongoing strategy to create localised content for our global WWE Network, develop another brand that engages our passionate fans, and add a new dimension to our on-going storylines.”
