WWE News: Ryback claims he beat AJ Styles on "many different occasions"

Ryback vs AJ Styles at Wrestlemania. How does that sound?

Ryback made a bizarre claim in a promo he cut from his living room, to promote his coming appearance at 5-Star Wrestling in Scotland, that he defeated The Phenomenal One and current WWE World Champion, AJ Styles, “many times” in “that other place” (WWE).

The context should first be explained. John Morrison/Johnny Mundo, defeated AJ Styles in a match on 13th January 2016, just 11 days before Styles’ WWE debut at the Royal Rumble and won the 5-Star Wrestling Championship from The Phenomenal One.

Morrison, who is still the champion, recently issued an open challenge, which prompted The Big Guy Ryback to answer. His reply, now means he will face Morrison on the 28th of January in Dundee, Scotland. In the video below from the 0:15 mark, Ryback begins to talk about Morrison and AJ Styles:

As you can see, The Big Guy claimed that he had beaten AJ Styles on many different occasions in WWE. However, this is a blunder from his end. The only time Ryback and AJ Styles have ever faced each other was at a house show in Dubai, this past April and AJ Styles won the match.

It is no secret that the two were supposed to meet at Wrestlemania 32 this year. Ryback claimed that VinceMcMahon promised him a Wrestlemania match with AJ Styles, and also told Ryback to “squash the little twerp” referring to Styles.

However, that did not come about, and Ryback instead lost to Kalisto, in a United States Championship match, while AJ Styles lost to Chris Jericho.

Dave Meltzer, of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, confirmed that Ryback vs. Styles was indeed one of the plans for Wrestlemania 32.

It is surprising to hear the term “little twerp” being used to refer to Styles. However, Vince’s impression of The Phenomenal One has clearly changed, as his booking in the last 5-6 months, shows that McMahon is clearly a big believer in AJ Styles and his ability.
