WWE News: Smackdown Live viewership down for episode 901

Ellsworth winning his contract was surprisingly more appealing to viewers than most weeks

SmackDown Live episode 901 drew 2,505,000 viewers, down from last week’s 2,725,000 viewers for the 900th episode, which featured the return of The Undertaker and also The Rated-R Superstar Edge. Despite being down from last week, it should be noted that this week’s Smackdown Live is still the highest number since September 13th (not counting last week’s episode).

WWE scored the best rating among 18 - 49-year-old demographic at .81 and the seventh highest total viewership of any Tuesday night cable program. The main event of SmackDown Live this week was AJ Styles vs. James Ellsworth 3, this time around it was a ladder match for James Ellsworth’s Smackdown Live contract.

Ellsworth winning the match, also means that he earned a shot for the WWE World Championship against AJ Styles. It is not known when this championship match will happen, but it is likely to be next week. However, it should be noted that next week is the go-home show to TLC. The entire Pay-Per-View will only have a two-week build-up.

That is why all of the matches are rehashes and feuds from before.

So far, the TLC card looks as follows

AJ Styles(c) vs. Dean Ambrose – TLC Match for the WWE World ChampionshipThe Miz(c) vs. Dolph Ziggler – Ladder Match for the Intercontinental ChampionshipBecky Lynch(c) vs. Alexa Bliss – Singles match for the Smackdown Women’s ChampionshipBaron Corbin vs. Kalisto – Chairs matchNikki Bella vs. Carmella – No Disqualification matchHeath Slater & Rhyno vs. American Alpha OR The New Wyatt Family(Bray Wyatt & Randy Orton) – Smackdown Tag Team Championships

Minus the last match mentioned, it looks as though the full card is set. There could be a match or two added to the kickoff show as well. Here is a preview of the last Smackdown Live exclusive Pay-Per-View of the year
