WWE News: Zack Ryder announces that he will undergo surgery

Zack Ryder injures knee on SmackDown Live

The Hype Bros is an exciting and energetic tag team in the WWE. Originated in NXT, when kindred spirits Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley were put together, not only did it revive Ryder’s declining WWE career but it also greatly helped Rawley’s stock in the company. The team came close on many occasions to capturing the NXT Tag Team Championships, but came up short every time.

The team officially formed on the main roster when Rawley was drafted to SmackDown Live from NXT in July. They have experienced mild success, before achieving their greatest feat by becoming No. 1 contenders after Ryder was the last man in a tag team battle royal. However, unfortunately, Zyder injured his knee during the match. Now, Ryder has recently annouced that he will have to undergo surgery for the injury.

Mojo Rawley also responded to his announcement with a word of encouragement.

WWE doctor Chris Robinson descibed the situation.

"We think he injured his kneecap or his patella. We think it popped out and then popped back in, so we're just going to do an MRI to make sure that there is not cartilage damage or some tendon tearing, stuff like that. Hopefully there's not and it'll be a shorter rehab period. If there is, there's a different road we might have to go down that may take longer to get him to recover."

The Hype Bros became an on-again, off-again, tag team during WrestleMania 32 season, while Ryder moved back up to the main roster to be in the Intercontinental Championship hunt. In what was a pleasant surprise, Ryder won the title at WrestleMania in a ladder match. Ryder would lose it just a day later on Raw, reforming his team with Rawley on NXT shortly after, while still competing for the main roster.

Winning the No. 1 contendership was only the beginning of a very tough road for the Hype Bros. Their opponents would have been the current champions, Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton, who have turned out to be one of the most dominant and intimidating teams in recent history. However, as Zack Ryder knows, any underdog is capable of defying odds and pulling an upset victory.

While WWE has yet to provide a timeline of his recovery, hopefully it is a speedy one.
