WWE NXT prospect Emma's entertaining debut

Emma

Emma – WWE’s latest NXT prospect

After weeks of being spotted in the crowd, Emma finally made her debut in a segment which was there just for some comic relief. Summer Rae and Emma got to, in a way, continue their rivalry from NXT into RAW. But even if it was a forgettable segment, Emma did perform well with whatever little she had. She was even able to get an ‘Emma’ chant going for a segment which could have easily distracted the crowd away to chant ‘CM Punk’ more vociferously.

A dance-off in the WWE is nothing more than a comic relief moment. Emma’s debut seems to have been very low-key just like the debuts of Summer Rae and Xavier Woods. All of them didn’t get a spectacular debut like the Shield, the Wyatts, Big E Langston and certainly Alexander Rusev seems to be in line for some sufficient screen time as the “Bulgarian Brute”. Hopefully, Paige has something better lined up for her whenever she makes her debut.

Emma, or Tenille Dashwood, started her career in Australia and from there on moved to various independent circuits like the Prairie Wrestling Alliance, Shimmer Women Athletes and later on for the Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling promotion. All this led her to the WWE developmental territory in 2011, where she debuted her character- Emma- with a very catchy and whimsical entrance theme and a likewise personality. Her dance move is simple and it became really popular in NXT, something that everyone can do. Her character in NXT was adored by many. All this made Emma and Paige (arguably the most popular female performer in NXT) the top contenders for the NXT Divas title. She might have lost the match but she won hearts by her performance. Her journey in NXT was terrific. In the beginning, she didn’t look like someone who should be taken seriously, she looked really awkward. But soon, she began to catch everyone’s attention. Hope the same thing happens to her in the main roster.

But just like NXT, WWE management needs to give her character some space to breathe and involve her in backstage segments where her goofy personality is on display. That will give the main roster audience more reason to cheer for her and this in turn might get ‘EMMAlution or EMMAtaining’ trending worldwide.

She looked lovely in her debut but with some prior notice of her character to the audience would have made a normally unremarkable dance off segment into something memorable. Teaming her up with Santino seems like a move similar to teaming Xavier Woods with R-Truth. Woods’ is yet to leave a mark with his character.

A character like Emma was fun to watch on NXT but in the world of RAW where there is a much larger crowd involved with cameras almost everywhere, a character seems like a fly on such a big stage. It’s kind of obvious that just like Fandagoing, Emma’s dance move will catch on but with some character development, she can do wonders for the Divas division.
