WWE RAW review: The Creative have nothing much for you

After a very uninspiring episode of Raw last week, this week seemed to be a definite improvement over its predecessor. The biggest story to come last week was the 22 page document reported to have been sent by CM Punk’s lawyers to the WWE. The follow-up to that is still awaited.

But if that was the most happening thing about the WWE last week, then there is something seriously wrong with the way the Creative is handling things. This week saw a very pleasant surprise. Four of the best NXT stars garnered the spotlight to promote NXT Takeover. Tyson Kidd, Tyler Breeze, Adrian Neville and Sami Zayn captured their moment with gusto. The match began with Zayn getting the best response but Neville went on to garner some new fans by showcasing what he does best. RAW saw what NXT almost always knew.

WWE’s Creative team hasn’t always been at its strongest in the past few years. They do come up with gems once in a while but for the most part, whatever the WWE is right now is more or less thanks to the writing team. The reason why they might have lost many a fan is because of whom the management decides to shower with pushes and what the writing ultimately is. Only one out of the many stories that come out look enthralling.

The best of times

This summer’s biggest storyline was the dissolution of the Shield courtesy the betrayal by Seth Rollins. What followed was an entertaining and compelling feud with Dean Ambrose which seems to be far from over and that’s the best news. Ambrose has turned out to look better than what he was in the Shield. He has turned out to be one of the most popular superstars. The Shield were unstoppable together but Ambrose has been better off apart.

Rollins and Ambrose have actually switched the character traits that were expected of them if and when they went their separate ways. Rollins has, to his credit, turned out to be one of the best wrestlers and heels on the roster. Come Night of Champions, Ambrose is expected to be back after finishing his shooting schedule and the feud will be back on.

Till then, it seems the Creative’s stagnancy will continue. The best feud right now is the one between Cena and Lesnar. Heyman has done a great job of veiling the limited presence of Lesnar, making the eventual arrival of Lesnar all the more must-watch and in turn making the Beast Incarnate’s presence that much more enigmatic.

The worst of times

It has completely gone haywire with The Bellas storyline, they haven’t been able to capitalize on the potential of the feud between AJ Lee and Paige, and have covered up the Tag Team picture with just matches.

Right now, actually, the matches are much better than their build up or the storyline behind them. It seems they’re hiding behind the awesomeness of a match to cover up for the very redundant story that accompanies that match or rivalry.

Take the case of Wyatt Vs Jericho. These two have faced off three times already. They gave one hell of a match on Raw this week. But their past two meetings haven’t been much to talk about. The match itself came as a relief to many Wyatt fans as his gimmick had suffered a lot since his Wrestlemania match with Cena which he lost.

The crescendo of his character was the build up it had for the Wrestlemania season. It was enthralling. Their promo video was one of the best of all time. Eminem’s song just piled on the excitement. But when the match ultimately took place, Wyatt looked like he needed more practice when it came to 20+minutes of work inside a ring. It was all downhill from there.

All this can just make fans miss Ambrose, Punk, Daniel Bryan etcetra.
