WWE Rumors: Is Mickie James headed to SmackDown?

James took on Asuka at NXT TakeOver: Toronto

Mickie James made her return to the WWE ring in an emphatic manner by taking Asuka to her limit at NXT TakeOver: Toronto. People were stunned after seeing her performance, and several people have questioned the status of Mickie James’ future in the WWE.

A curious fan took to Twitter to ask the SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch if she would be willing to face the legend with her title on the line.

Here’s what the “Irish Lass Kicker” had to say:

Becky Lynch is currently in a feud with Alexa Bliss, which might conclude at the TLC PPV.

Here is Dave Meltzer’s view on the matter:

“[Mickie James] is certainly good enough to be on the main roster, and it’s not like SmackDown couldn’t use another experienced woman, especially with Carmella and Alexa Bliss and everyone there. They could use another babyface that’s got a lot of experience. She’s a lot more experienced than all of them, except for Natalya.”

As Meltzer noted, Smackdown lack depth in their roster and James might be the perfect answer to the solution, providing credibility as well as experience. The most viable booking option for James after her return should be a program with Natalya. A win for Natalya will seal her position as the next contender for the title.

The status of James in the WWE is still unclear, as Triple H revealed that “her future lies in her own hands” at the post NXT TakeOver chat. Although age is not on her side, James is still capable of producing great matches, like the one with Asuka.

Another possibility is that James could be a coach in NXT, as she is the perfect veteran for that role. With the departure of Bayley and Nia Jax, NXT also lacks depth in the women’s division.

If this was indeed a one match deal, then the possible road for James is most likely to be included in the Hall Of Fame class of 2017 alongside the likes of Goldberg and Vader.
