WWE Rumours: Brock Lesnar participating in the Royal Rumble match

If he does participate, it will be Lesnar’s 3rd Royal Rumble match

Brock Lesnar’s arch rival Goldberg announced on Raw that he will be participating in the Royal Rumble. The man who he squashed the previous night, Brock Lesnar, is also booked for the Royal Rumble match, according to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet.

Lesnar always participates in the Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View, but very rarely in the Rumble match itself.

This year’s Rumble was the second time that Lesnar participated in the match. The first time was back in 2003, a match which he won. Last year, he had eliminated 3 members of The Wyatt Family, until Bray Wyatt ordered his eliminated family members to come back and eliminate Brock as well.

This coming Rumble, it is almost a guarantee that he will cross paths with Goldberg again, likely leading to a Wrestlemania 33 blowoff between the two. Back in 2004, Goldberg was the favourite to win the Royal Rumble match, but Lesnar (who was WWE Champion at the time), cost Goldberg the match, leading to their match at Wrestlemania XX.

The Survivor Series bout between Goldberg and Lesnar was billed with the “Fantasy Warfare just got real” tagline. The match lasted for only 1 minute and 26 seconds, a decision which left a vast majority of fans absolutely bewildered, especially since Lesnar had not been pinned clean for over 3 and a half years.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter stated that the two icons were set to face off against each other, and “more than just once”.

While it is possible that plans could change, as of this moment, Lesnar is reportedly booked to be part of the Royal Rumble match. Since the plans are for him to continue his program with Goldberg, it makes sense for him to be part of the same match his rival is in.
