WWE Rumours: Real reason why John Cena will miss Backlash, possible return plans revealed

The feud is far from being over...

At WWE Summerslam, AJ Styles picked up a clean victory over the 15 time World Champion John Cena. The win over the “the face that runs the place” propelled Styles into the WWE Championship picture and he will be facing Dean Ambrose for the gold at the Backlash pay-per-view.

But John Cena is yet to make his appearance on the blue brand after his defeat. There were certain rumors which indicated that Cena will be taking a hiatus from the company to work in non-wrestling related projects. Although he is wrestling in the dark matches, there is no confirmation about his return on the main show. Apparently, he has a busy schedule till October and will be back after that.

In fact, there is no possibility of Cena’s appearance at Sunday’s Backlash event as WWE confirmed his presence in their International tour. This weekend, John Cena will be in action in Live events hosted in Manilla and Shanghai. His star power, backed by his ability to interact in Mandarin makes Cena an important draw for the events in China.

The creatives have started sketching the plans for John Cena’s return on Smackdown. Recent reports highlight that there is a plan of reigniting the feud of Cena and AJ Styles, which will now revolve around the WWE Championship. As a result, the chances of AJ Styles getting the gold at Backlash have gone up a notch now. The next chapter of Cena vs Styles may be on the cards for the next few months.

Although featuring both Cena and Styles in the WWE Championship seems a great idea, it may be fatal for the upcoming talents of the blue brand. There is a possibility that Ziggler, Corbin, Wyatt, Ambrose and others will be kept out of the title picture for several months.

This feud will also increase the chances of John Cena’s 16th World Championship reign. Another report claims that WWE will be adding stipulations in the next match between Cena and AJ, probably a ‘career vs title’ match. There’s no doubt about it that Cena won’t be losing in such stipulation and that this will only lead to Cena tieing the legendary Ric Flair and his 16 World Championships record.
