WWE SmackDown 20th September 2016: 5 Points to Note

Guess who lost this week? This guy!

Dean Ambrose said what many have felt for quite a few weeks. Smackdown is the best wrestling show on television, folks! And this was great coming from a man who beat John Cena fair and square in the middle of the ring. This was glorious. The best characters on Smackdown had much material to play out today and please start watching Talking Smack. WHAT. A. SHOW.

This week two matches were well hyped. Ambrose Vs Cena and The Miz taking on Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship. Clash of Champions is this Sunday, but Smackdown has more momentum going than Raw ever did.

Here are the 5 points to note from the best WWE show.

1: ‘That’s our guy’

Next week on SmackDown LIVE, Ambrose will get his one-on-one rematch against Styles.
‘The Dude’ won

It was easy to think that Dean Ambrose had heat on him after his awkward interview on the Stone Cold podcast. It would be easy to think that his championship run pissed off many fans. Well, how else do you explain an entire audience united in chanting for ‘Cena’ last week after his comments on the 30-year-old?

Ambrose pinned Cena clean in the middle of the ring in the main event of Smackdown and then took ‘Talking Smack’, the best after show WWE has had ever, by storm. He ranted about how he’s been the go-to guy in the WWE, so much so that he is like a mechanic. Whether it’s a promo, a contract signing, a cage match or any other extreme match, Ambrose is game!

He questioned what Cena’s going to do now that he was pinned by a guy he thinks soesn’t match his level of competency. He also talked about how he’s not a thief like Styles- stealing hand gestures (the two sweet) and catchphrases.

He ended it all by calling Smackdown, Talking Smack- the greatest wrestling show on Television

And Bryan, very impressed, said “That’s our guy!”

This was good. This was very, very good.

2: First Ever

Alexa literally turns the tables on Becky after signing the contract.
What a moment!

Two of the best talkers in the women’s division opened the show this week with a contract signing - the first ever contract signing between two opponents on SmackDown Live. The Women’s Championship is set to be defended for the first time ever as well at No Mercy.

Bliss proved once again why she’s one of the best talkers in the women’s division with a scathing description of what she thinks of the champion. Lynch was her charming self, talking about being a fighter and not let fate dictate her terms in life.

Bryan had announced his intentions of keeping this a civil interaction before the signing had begun. It ended up from civil, of course. Bliss completely blindsided Lynch, first throwing the contract at her and then the table. Well, there you have it- the first ever feud for the Smackdown Women’s Championship.

3: And still your WWE Intercontinental Champion

Still gloriously cheating.

The Miz and Daniel Bryan, finally, agreed to a new contract. The Miz is still on Smackdown and he still gets to face Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship. The Miz wasn’t quite ready for the match when Bryan told him that if he doesn’t face Ziggler, the contract that was re- negotiated will be cancelled as well. The terms in the contract included a title defense and hence Miz has to abide by the terms.

The match happened and Miz again used that darned spray to win and keep the never ending title reign going.

Glorious.

4: The Heels

The Usos still won.

The Usos are really good as heels. They’re actually quite convincing and that has quite awesomely brought out a side that was much needed for a career/ gimmick boost. They are vicious- something that is wonderful to see from such long-term babyfaces.

American Alpha were back and ready to avenge what they did to Gable. The match between the two teams was about a number one contender’s match for the tag titles which the former Raw tag team champions convincingly won.

This is far from over. And Slater and Rhyno are as ready as ever to beat these guys again.

5: Misc

Orton is just a mere mortal, Wyatt says

Randy Orton fought his first live match since Summerslam against Erick Rowan. He won via pinfall. The lights went off and Wyatt was there to exclaim that while Orton is mortal, Wyatt is a God and Gods don’t die.

Meanwhile, the Women’s division has multiple feuds happening at the same time. Nikki Bella and Carmella while Natalya and Naomi have their own arguments to settle.

Carmella again got ahead of Nikki Bella and the tag team match was ended abruptly while it seemed Bella and Naomi won via disqualification. Carmella was going on ramming Bella to the barricade.

Also, they’re doing a wonderful story for John Cena’s journey towards a 16th World Title win. He lost clean to Ambrose today. On Live TV. He may just go through many falls before he makes it to 16.
