WWE SmackDown Live Preview: 25th October 2016

Can Ambrose become the new contender?

Turning a local jobber into a quasi-main eventer has been the story of SmackDown Live for the past couple of weeks. After getting squashed by Braun Strowman, James Ellsworth was shot to stardom thanks to some intelligent booking from WWE. He has turned into a sensation due to this, but there are other things to be worried about this week.

SmackDown will play host to some interesting matches and a huge return on Tuesday night and as they don’t have the pressure of making last minute decorations for Hell in a Cell, we can expect another solid show.

So here are the things that we should look out for at this week’s SmackDown Live.

#5 Will WWE add another superstar into the title picture?

One more time

After a few weeks of James Ellsworth, WWE is back on track with the AJ Styles – Dean Ambrose feud. The exclusion of John Cena from the feud was covered up with the shenanigans of Ellsworth. This match might not be for the championship, but it would determine whether or not Ambrose would be the number one contender or not.

The outing would be highly predictable for the fans as there is no one else near the championship scene. This opens up the door for WWE to push someone from the midcard and give them a place in the main event scene.

The ideal person for this would be Baron Corbin who has been getting some momentum lately. A push into the title scene would be a big step up for him. Interference against Ambrose would be a great way for Corbin’s introduction.

#4 Midcard storylines

A split coming up?

Dolph Ziggler, Heath Slater and Rhyno suffered a defeat at the hands of Miz and Spirit Squad last week.

The trio would be looking to settle the score this week around. WWE is likely to split apart the two storylines and give Spirit Squad a run for the WWE Tag Team championships whereas Miz and Ziggler could go on to work for the Intercontinental championship once again.

And in the Miz – Ziggler storyline, the relationship between Miz and Maryse could be a sub plot. WWE recently tweeted out a tease of breaking up the couple and if that is indeed in the plans, then it would be recommended to keep an eye on the duo this week.

#3 Becky Lynch returns

Set to comeback

An injury had forced Becky Lynch out of her match with Alexa Bliss at No Mercy. Though WWE did not make Becky drop the title, she was out of action for a few weeks before recently returning at a live event. Becky is expected to make her SmackDown return this Tuesday night and will resume her feud with Alexa.

A title match between the two is scheduled for the 8th November edition of Smackdown in Glasgow, UK.

It would be interesting to see how the creative team books Alexa as she needs some good momentum building up to her challenge for the Women’s championship.

#2 Carmella stepping it up

Winning fans

Carmella took her feud with Nikki Bella to a different level last week. The promo that she delivered on the relationship between Nikki and John Cena made people talk and the feud is all of a sudden under the limelight due to this.

Of course, there were shades of WWE pushing Total Bellas, but then again, Carmella has been projected as the representative of every fan that has a problem with the Bellas.

This could give her some good mileage and this is turning out to be a good storyline for the Women’s division. In comparison to what is happening on Raw, the SmackDown’s Women’s division still needs improvements and it can only happen through such storyline backed feuds.

#1 Eater of the Worlds against the Big Red Machine

Bray has some unfinished business with Kane

The feud between the Wyatt Family and Randy Orton got a new addition in the form of Kane.

The Big Red Machine, who didn’t have a clear cut storyline for a long time, settled down perfectly into the feud and last week’s segment was the proof of this. This week, WWE has booked a No-Disqualification match between Kane and Bray Wyatt and it is bound to entertain the fans.

Orton and Harper would also be in the middle of the action since the match has no stipulation. WWE would also sow seeds for the next chapter of this feud during the match making it a must watch segment.
