WWE SmackDown Results 11th October 2016, Full Show Match Updates and Video Highlights

Dean Ambrose had a ball as the special guest referee

WWE SmackDown came to us live from the SAP Center in San Jose, California. After a controversial No Mercy on Sunday and the blockbuster Raw last night, the onus was on the Blue Brand to live up to the hype.

Here are the complete WWE SmackDown Results for 11th October 2016:

#1 Dolph Ziggler’s opening segment with The Miz

After his win at No Mercy in the Title vs. Career match, Dolph Ziggler came out to celebrate with the fans but his promo was cut by none other than The Miz. The duo then cut promos before The Miz asks for a minute of silence at the demise of the Intercontinental Championship.

Ziggler then reveals that he has a little something for the former champ and a highlight package of their No Mercy clash with The Miz in tears is shown. “You were Crying” starts to reverberate around the SAP Center but The Miz responds by insisting that he will do whatever it takes to win the title back.

The Miz then reveals that Ziggler will have to take on his former Stablemates in a Handicap match and the Spirit Squad make their way to the ring.

#2 Dolph Ziggler vs. Spirit Squad

Ziggler takes out his former stablemates one after the other and goes on to taunt The Miz. The Spirit Squad then fight back as The Showoff is distracted by The Miz. Ziggler then tries to fight back but his attempt to nail the Superkick is stopped and he is Clotheslined by Mikey. After some back and forth Ziggler finally nails the Double DDT on his former friends.

The Spirit Squad then double team to get the upper hand against Ziggler for a 2-count but the Intercontinental Champion fights back and hits the Superkick on Mikey before rolling him up for the 3-count.

As soon as the match gets over The Miz charges into the ring and assaults Ziggler. He then nails The Skull Crushing Finale. As Miz and the Spirit Squad prepare to continue manhandling Ziggler, SmackDown Tag-Team Champions Heath Slater and Rhyno came to the rescue of the new IC champion.

Result: Dolph Ziggler defeats Spirit Squad via pinfall

The SmackDown Commissioner and General Manager are seen backstage and the duo then take the opportunity to propose three matches to Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon.

First, Bryan proposes a traditional 5 vs. 5 Elimination Match involving the 5 top Superstars from each brand. The second match will see the 5 Best Tag-Teams of the Blue brand take on the 5 Best Tag-Teams of Raw and the third match will involve the 5 Best women from each brand competing.

#4 Carmella vs. Naomi

Naomi must be on a high following her win over the #1 contender for the SmackDown Women’s Championship – Alexa Bliss. Earlier in the day, Nikki Bella was attacked backstage by Carmella.

The Princess of Staten Island is first to make her way to the ring and she is not afraid to show her heelish nature as she attacks Naomi before she completed her entrance. After some back and forth Carmella looked to be in control. However, Nikki makes her way down the ramp distracting The Princess and allowing Naomi to take advantage of the situation and pin Camerlla for the win.

Nikki then rushes into the ring to attack Carmella but she escapes into the crowd and the Bella twin celebrates with Naomi.

Result: Naomi defeats Carmella via pinfall

#5 Chad Gable vs. Jimmy Uso

One-half of two of the hottest tag teams on SmackDown go up against each other up next. The match kicks off with the Olympian showing off his mat skills by taking Jimmy down. The commentators are plugging away Gable's wrestling credentials and stress that he needs to focus on keeping it on the ground.

The heel, though, gets control with a cheap shot and locks Gable in a side headlock. Gable fights out of it with some elbows to the gut, followed by a back body drop. Gable goes up top and delivers a flying clothesline from the top rope. Gable looks fired up as he floors Jimmy with an Alpha exploder suplex to the corner.

Gable rushes towards Jimmy, but the Uso catches him and stations him on the top turnbuckle. Jimmy rolls Gable up and Jey applies the pressure with his leg from the outside - which the referee was oblivious to. 1-2-3!

Jimmy Uso picks up the tainted victory over the former Olympian in a short match.

Result: Jimmy Uso def. Chad Gable via pinfall

#6 Victory speech of AJ Styles

Following his controversial win over John Cena and Dean Ambrose, The Phenomenal One made his way to the ring to address the San Jose crowd. Styles cuts a promo and insists that beating Cena and Ambrose at the same time is ‘Phenomenal’.

He then demands his next opponent to make way and to his surprise, it is Dean Ambrose who comes out and announces that he is the one who is first in line to challenge Styles for the title.

Styles ignores him and reveals that his tonight’s opponent isn’t even on the roster. Out walks the Legend himself – James Ellsworth.

Daniel Bryan also comes out and insists that while Styles maybe The Face That Runs The Place, it is Bryan who runs SmackDown Live and announces that Styles will take on Ellsworth but with Ambrose as the special guest referee. He also warns the Phenomenal One that should he attack The Lunatic Fringe he could be fined or suspended.

#7 James Ellsworth vs AJ Styles with Dean Ambrose as the special guest referee

James Ellsworth beat Dean Ambrose

Following the explosive announcement by Bryan, Ambrose does not waste a single minute and grabs hold of the referee and takes his shirt to get the match underway. Styles, as expected, has all the early momentum as he treats Ellsworth to a series of kicks punches and headlocks.

Ellsworth then goes on a marathonesque run around the ring with Styles chasing him but the World Champion is tripped by Ambrose while he was in pursuit. The Lunatic Fringe was doing an excellent job to instigate The Phenomenal One and he continued on his mission by picking up a call when Ellsworth had tapped out to a calf crusher from Styles, thereby ignoring the submission.

Ambrose then starts engaging with fans on the ringside, which further angers Styles and he nails the Styles Clash on Ellsworth and pins him for 1, 2..... Ambrose stops counting after 2 and stares at Styles before hitting him with Dirty Deeds. He then pulls Ellsworth over Styles and starts counting but the champion kicks out. The Lunatic Fringe then nails another Dirty Deeds on Styles and puts Ellsworth’s hands over the champion for the 3-count.

James Ellsworth has just defeated the WWE World Champion. I repeat – James Ellsworth has just defeated the WWE World Champion.

Result: James Ellsworth def. AJ Styles via pinfall (Dean Ambrose special guest referee)

Following the show at Talking Smack, it was announced by Daniel Bryan that James Ellsworth will compete against AJ Styles for the WWE World Championship.

#8 Randy Orton and Kane vs. Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper

Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper make their way through the darkness and an ocean of flashlights. Luke Harper cuts a promo first, saying that he sees the light now. Bray says it has never been so bright and taunts Orton to get his monster out for a clash against the one he brought out of the dead, Luke Harper. He ends the segment by promising to send them back into a black hole.

The promo leads to fans chanting ‘What’.

Randy Orton and Kane enter the ring and the 'titanic' tag team match kicks off with Kane and Harper. Harper makes a quick tag to Bray after a brief exchange of shots. The Eater of Worlds comes in and is taken by Kane's onslaught, forcing him to roll out of the ring where Orton is waiting and he is forced to roll back into the ring for the Demon.

After some back and forth, Orton suplexes Harper from the top rope before tagging Kane in, who comes in, but is overwhelmed by the Wyatts. Kane's missile dropkick is met by one from Harper. He tags Bray in, who delivers the running senton. He gets Kane back into his corner and keeps him neutralized. Harper gets the tag, who comes in and comes off from the ropes only to see him get caught in a vintage Kane DDT.

Kane makes the hot tag to Randy Orton, who comes in and goes on a complete rampage. Bray also gets the tag and the action spills outside with Orton running roughshod on Wyatt.

The Viper gets Bray into the ring and delivers the DDT from the second rope. As he prepares for the RKO in his trademark style, Kane stops Harper from disrupting the proceedings by taking him out outside of the ring.

The referee asks Kane to come up on the apron and wait for the tag. This was enough for Harper to superkick Orton in the face and Wyatt lays Orton out for a nearfall. Orton goes for the tag, but the lights go out!

The lights come on and Luke Harper is seen in Kane’s spot. The Big Red Machine is missing! Orton turns and walks into a botched Sister Abigail followed by the pin for the 3-count.

Result: Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper beat Randy Orton and Kane via pinfall
