Smackdown’s opening segment saw Rusev challenge Swagger to a Flag match at SummerSlam

WWE Smackdown from Corpus Christi, Texas saw Chris Jericho battle against Wyatt Family’s Eric Rowan in the main event in order to gain a stipulation for his match against Bray Wyatt at SummerSlam while the voices inside Randy Orton’s head called out to Roman Reigns as he challenged for a match at the biggest event of the summer. Paige injured her “best friend” AJ Lee and Ambrose had to deal with Seth Rollins and Kane in a Handicap match.

Here are the results from the show.

Jack Swagger vs Cesaro

From the back of a hard hitting encounter on Monday Night Raw against Rusev, Swagger faced his former Real American team-mate Cesaro in a singles match. The tough contest between the two came to an end when Cesaro was forced to tap out from a Patriot Lock. After the match, Lana and Rusev came out waving the Russian flag and challenged Swagger to a Flag match at SummerSlam. Zeb Colter happily accepted their challenge as he got the arena behind him as he chanted “We The People!”

Winner: Jack Swagger

Randy Orton sets his sight on Roman Reigns

Randy Orton issues a challenge to Roman Reigns at SummerSlam

The Viper made his way into the ring to challenge the man he destroyed last Monday Night. Triple H made it clear to Orton that taking Roman Reigns out of the equation was the only way he could ever get a shot at the WWE World title. Orton taunted the black-clad-superstar in order to get him to fight at SummerSlam. Whether a heavily bet up Reigns responds to Randy’s challenged next week remains to be seen.

Bo Dallas vs R-Truth

The Bo-lieving finally ended last Monday night after R-Truth defeated Bo Dallas on Raw to end his winning streak. And those two faced each other again on Smackdown as Bo once again lost to the rapping superstar via disqualification. Even after the referee finished his 5-count, Bo continued assaulting the former US champion which led to Truth winning the bout due to DQ.

Winner: Bo Dallas

AJ Lee vs Rosa Mendes

Divas champion AJ Lee was in action against Rosa Mendes as she quickly locked The Black Widow submission hold and made the new Total Divas star tap out in a matter of seconds. But as she skipped away from the ring onto the stage, Paige attacked her from behind and knocked her off the stage. She kept claiming herself to be her best friend and skipped away into the back as officials attended to an injured AJ.

Winner: AJ Lee

Dean Ambrose battles Seth Rollins in a Handicap match

Dean Ambrose vs Seth Rollins and Kane

The Lunatic Fringe was in a Handicap match against his nemesis Seth Rollins and the Big Red Monster Kane. In the middle of an intense match up, Ambrose went for a leap over the top rope taking out his former team-mate and Kane together at ringside. After bouncing Kane’s head off the steel steps, Ambrose finally got his hands on Rollins unloading a series of attacks on the Shield turncoat inside the ring.

But once again, Kane came to the rescue of the MITB briefcase owner as he tossed Ambrose onto the other side of the barricades. That didn’t keep Ambrose out for long though as he came back and released a series on chair attacks on The Demon forcing the referee to call for the bell as Rollins managed to escape while Ambrose continued his chair assault on Kane.

Winner: Rollins and Kane via DQ

Fandango vs Diego

Fandango faced Diego in a Raw rematch, as the masked matador was again accompanied to the ring by the dancing Superstar’s former flames Summer Rae and Layla. In the end, a ringside triple tango involving the sultry Divas and El Torito distracted the fleet-footed Fandango long enough to allow Diego to pick up the victory.

Winner: Diego

Alberto Del Rio vs Dolph Ziggler

The Show Off squared off against Alberto Del Rio in a hard fought encounter that was interrupted by the Intercontinental Champion Miz who was at ringside at the commentary table. The Moneymaker decided it was the appropriate time to continue his acceptance speech from last Friday night.

The bleached blonde Superstar took the distraction personally, chasing off The Awesome One. But, when he attempted to climb back into the ring, he was met by a kick to the face from his opponent. After the Mexican Superstar forced a fallen Ziggler to tap to his Cross Armbreaker submission, a gleeful Miz returned to make sure his embattled rival could get a good look at his Awesome Hollywood face.

Winner: Alberto Del Rio

Chris Jericho aware of his SummerSlam opponent and his disciple at ringside

Chris Jericho vs Erick Rowan

Prior to SmackDown’s main event, it was announced that Erick Rowan would be banned from ringside at Bray Wyatt and Chris Jericho’s SummerSlam bout if he lost his match Friday night to Y2J. With the stakes increased, the Ayatollah of Rock ‘n’ Rolla battled The Wyatt Family follower blow for blow, eventually landing the knockout strike in the form of a Codebreaker.

The vital victory means the goat-masked Rowan will be unable to assist his cryptic leader at The Biggest Party of the Summer, but will it be enough for the first Undisputed Champion to save himself from The New Face of Fear?

Winner: Chris Jericho
