WWE SummerSlam 2015: Possible match card for the pay-per-view

Brock Lesnar and Dean Ambrose

We might have one more pay-per-view stop before SummerSlam, but it is safe to say that we are on the road to SummerSlam. Just like WrestleMania, WWE will be looking to come out all guns blazing for the show in two months. As things stand now, there are a lot of exciting matches that they could pull off.

The way in which Money in the Bank ended has left the fans asking for more. WWE creative will be responsible for delivering this at Battleground. No matter what miracle WWE pulls off at Battleground, they will be doing it to sell tickets for SummerSlam. So before Battleground arrives, here’s a very early prediction for the SummerSlam match card.

Bray Wyatt vs. Roman Reigns

Bray Wyatt vs. Roman Reigns

The storyline between Bray Wyatt and Roman Reigns started at Money in the Bank. If it wasn’t for Bray, Reigns could have gone on to win the Money in the Bank match. It is simple booking from WWE, but things could get complex once Bray starts talking. Intentions of Bray are yet to be revealed and these two men have a match booked for Battleground.

This is, however, a big feud to conclude with just one match. Bray and Reigns will probably have a tainted finish at Battleground so that they could have a bigger stage for the conclusion. Bray is the favourite to take the drop here as Reigns is the pet project of Vince McMahon.

Wyatt Family vs. Team 3D (Tag Team Championship)

Wyatt Family

This match has been in the rumor mills for ages. Prime Time Players winning the tag team titles have further improved the chances of this match happening. Prime Time Players being the champions opens the door for Wyatt family to win the titles. If it was New Day, the heel-heel match wouldn’t have drawn.

The title change might happen as early as Battleground so that WWE has a good four week for buildup. Then again, the chances of Team 3D showing up in the company are pretty low. But if WWE manages to sign them in, then their tag team division is going to get an excellent boost in the post-SummerSlam period.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Rusev

Rusev and Lana

Rusev is currently out of action with his leg injury, but he is likely to recover in time for SummerSlam. The injury is actually a blessing for WWE. They now have the opportunity to pit these two up against each other at a big stage like SummerSlam. Lana should be the main factor in this match as well. If WWE wants to take it to the next level, they could make Lana the special guest referee as well.

This adds the possibility of Lana turning into the situation. Although, it would sound like a big mistake, it might help Rusev revive his career. Or WWE could just bury Rusev and give Ziggler the win while Lana flies free for some other feud.

Big Show vs. Ryback vs. Miz (Intercontinental Championship)

Ryback

The saga of Big Show, Ryback and Miz is nowhere near its end. Like it or not, this angle might run all the way to SummerSlam and beyond. Big Show has failed to evoke emotions among the fans till now and will have to produce something spectacular if he is to have heat in the match. Ryback, on the other hand, should show that he deserves to hold the championship that was once held by legends.

Entertainment quotient in the feud will come from the side of Miz. The Awesome one has no trouble getting the crowd chanting and his chicken antics are funny as well. It is hard to tell who will walk away with the title so early, but Ryback is the favorite here since he has only started his reign.

Randy Orton vs. Sheamus (For Money in the Bank briefcase)

Sheamus

Sheamus being Mr. Money in the bank would have been a disastrous decision if it wasn’t for the quality of other matches in the card. Even if he has the briefcase, Sheamus will not be able to cash in on the title until WWE comes up with a baby face champion. Till then, the Celtic Warrior needs to be invested in an angle and Randy Orton is the perfect option.

The Viper and Sheamus have a lot of history between them and will probably have a match at Battleground. However, the chapter will be extended to SummerSlam as WWE will not want to leave their precious Mr. Money in the Bank without a major match at the pay-per-view.

John Cena vs. Kevin Owens (United States Championship)

John Cena and Kevin Owens

No, this feud is too good to finish at three matches. John Cena and Kevin Owens have been tearing down the roof with their past two encounters. They are likely to do the same at Battleground as well. Unlike the last two outings, WWE will probably have the United States Championship on the line so that the match will look fresh.

Now, with respect to what happens at Battleground, Cena and Owens will likely have a full-blown rematch for the title at SummerSlam. It is the best path for both superstars and WWE will not take the risk of wasting their opportunity. To stop it from getting boring, the SummerSlam clash should be the conclusion of this feud.

Seth Rollins vs. Triple H

Seth Rollins

The relationship between Seth Rollins and Triple H has taken a rocky path. Hunter and Stephanie are clearly pissed off at their chosen one and their decision to involve Brock Lesnar into the situation has angered Rollins as well. This match is bound to happen one day or the other and the best place for WWE to pull this off would be SummerSlam.

Rollins should turn face first and they could do it in the period between Battleground and SummerSlam. Also, for this match to happen, Rollins should drop his title to Lesnar in their encounter at Battleground. This way, we could have a match driven by personal emotions rather than championships.

Dean Ambrose vs. Brock Lesnar

Dean Ambrose and Brock Lesnar

Lesnar will have his crack at the WWE World heavyweight championship at Battleground and he is expected to win the match. In parallel, WWE could decide a number one contender as well in a match between a mask wearing Kane and Dean Ambrose. This way, a match between Dean Ambrose and Brock Lesnar could be set up for SummerSlam.

Now, the idea that WWE wanted to pull off at WrestleMania was to make Roman Reigns look good in front of Lesnar. The mixed response that Reigns got messed up the plans but it will be an entirely different scenario with Ambrose. The fans will be firmly behind him and WWE will have a credible babyface to go up against Lesnar.
