5 Things to take away from Brock Lesnar vs Goldberg

Goldberg beat Brock Lesnar in 85 seconds

It was a little hard for me and many other fans to fully contemplate the outcome of Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar. Brock Lesnar, the conqueror and resident beast of the WWE, got beaten by a returning Goldberg who is more than a decade his senior. Lesnar, the man who ended The Undertaker’s streak, lost to Goldberg in 85 seconds.

To say that the result was a shock, is a massive understatement. The sheer magnitude of what happened in Toronto is still reverberating through the WWE Universe and as the dust settles, let’s quickly take a look at what we took away from the Survivor Series main event.

5: No one saw it coming

Even Paul Heyman looked like he didn’t know what was happening

Going into Survivor Series, there were rumours that Goldberg might get the win but to be honest, almost no one believed that ‘The Beast’ would lose, albeit in under two minutes.

The shock on the faces of the fans in the arena told the story. A returning veteran had just beaten WWE’s most feared individual as if he were nothing more than a common jobber. Honestly, even Bo Dallas might have lasted a minute with Goldberg.

Now that Goldberg has won, WWE better have a concrete plan for him or this result will just have been for shock’s sake when it could be so much more.

4: WWE prefers big moments over storylines

Goldberg beating Lesnar will be spoken about for years to come

WWE proved it once again at Survivor Series – they prefer huge moments over long-term storytelling. Even though it made no sense for Goldberg to squash Lesnar, WWE chose to go down that path in order to create a moment that fans would remember for years – the night ‘The Beast’ had his legs cut out from underneath him.

Just take a moment to think of what it means for all the people Lesnar hammered over the last couple of years, now that he can’t hang with a nearly 50-year old Goldberg for more than a couple of minutes.

3: Will Brock Lesnar’s aura be shattered after this?

Can Brock Lesnar reclaim his unbeatable aura?

Let’s face it, a large part of Brock Lesnar’s aura is the fact that he destroys anyone in front of him. Lesnar has been one of the most protected wrestlers in WWE history since re-signing with the company and was chosen as the one to beat the Undertaker at Wrestlemania to conquer his streak.

A section of fans were already a little upset with Brock Lesnar for his matches being repetitive, with him spamming the same suplex over and over again. Now, with Lesnar getting destroyed by Goldberg, will Lesnar’s unbeatable aura be a thing of the past?

One thing is for sure, tomorrow’s edition of Monday Night Raw is a must-watch. How will Brock Lesnar react to his humiliation at Survivor Series? Lesnar has to come out all guns blazing and destroy a couple of jobbers.

2: WWE could have created a new Superstar instead of pushing Goldberg

Goldberg’s spot could have been given to a younger Superstar

Imagine the Goldberg-Lesnar match going down the exact same way, except Goldberg being replaced with one of WWE’s New Era Superstars like Kevin Owens. Lesnar has been on a rampage in the WWE for the last couple of years and it was clear that whoever ended up beating Lesnar would end up with a huge rub from the spot.

With Goldberg being the one to beat/destroy Lesnar, the question we have to ask is why the spot went t Goldberg. Yes, Goldberg is still a huge draw but he won’t be around for too long at 49 years old and this was an opportunity to create a huge new star and WWE sort of blew it and all to promote a video game, albeit a good video game.

1: Goldberg has to stick around

Goldberg has to stick around a few more matches

With Goldberg destroying Lesnar in 85 seconds, one thing is for sure, there’s no way that this will be Goldberg’s only match in his current WWE run. There has to be something much bigger planned for the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion and there are already rumours that Goldberg will appear at the 2017 Royal Rumble.

There’s no way that Goldberg should be allowed to end his current run without helping to put over one of WWE’s younger guys. Goldberg’s aura has no doubt increased after making mincemeat out of Lesnar at Survivor Series and a Wrestlemania match with one of WWE’s young wrestlers should be at the top of WWE’s priority for Wrestlemania 33.
