WWE Top Five Rumors of the Week and Analysis: 23rd August, 2016

Shane vs. Lesnar in the works?

SummerSlam is in the books and due to the importance of the show, the weekly roundup of the WWE rumors have been pushed forward by a day to incorporate the speculations that came up from the show. WWE had some curious booking decisions at SummerSlam, with the most notable one being Brock Lesnar’s TKO win over Randy Orton.

It instantly got the fans talking and so did the reason as to why Sasha Banks dropped the Women’s championship. On the night that followed, Finn Balor vacated the WWE Universal championship, making things even more chaotic.

There were certain other rumors as well which deserves a mention and in this list, we are going to take a closer look at them and analyze their potential impact.

Roman Reigns favorite to win WWE Universal championship

Next champion?

Finn Balor was forced to vacate his WWE Universal championship this week just a day after winning it at SummerSlam. WWE has booked a fatal four-way between Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Big Cass and Kevin Owens for next week to determine the new champion and the rumor mill suggests that Roman Reigns is the favorite to win the title.

Reigns not following up his angle with Rusev at Raw was due to this. Also, WWE is still pretty high on Big Cass and this is why he gets a spot in the match alongside names that have already established themselves on the roster.

Sanity trailer at NXT Takeover

Tommy End

The 'Sanity' teaser that WWE had at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II is apparently meant for Crazy Mary Dobson, who is about to get a big-time debut at NXT. She will be getting her promotion from an enhancement talent and is bound to be a major character in the Women's division which recently lost Bayley to the main roster.

Elsewhere, notable Independent wrestler Tommy End has almost wrapped up his deal with WWE and is expected to join the Performance Centre soon. Tommy End has been performing exceptionally well in the independent scene and he is expected to open up the Dutch market for WWE.

Update on Cruiserweight division on Raw

Kendrick is almost confirmed for the division

The Cruiserweight division of WWE has everyone excited. Though WWE announced the same during the initiation of the brand split, they are yet to roll out the division. According to the official WWE announcement, the Cruiserweight division is set to be introduced on RAW on 19th September. WWE might pull off the division once the Cruiserweight Classic wraps up and despite the rejection, Kota Ibushi is indeed the top priority for WWE right now.

Cedric Alexander and Roderick Strong are two other names that WWE is looking to add to their Cruiserweight division on a permanent basis. There is no update on how they want to use Neville, but expect him to have a good role as well. Brian Kendrick, TJ Perkins, Noam Dar, and Rich Swann are other names that are confirmed.

Reasons for heat on Alberto Del Rio

WWE believes that Del Rio is a bad influence on Paige

Alberto Del Rio’s career with WWE might be coming to an abrupt end as the heat on him is piling up. Del Rio was recently suspended for the wellness policy violation and just hours later, WWE also suspended Paige, who was rumored to be in a relationship with Del Rio.

Backstage officials feel that Del Rio has too much party in his life and at the same time, they feel that he is a bad influence on Paige.

Del Rio, according to the rumors, will be looking to get out of WWE as soon as his contract legally allows him to do so. Paige, on the other hand, is expected to stay put and remain in WWE.

Brock Lesnar vs. Shane McMahon in plans for Royal Rumble

At Royal Rumble?

The physical confrontation between Shane McMahon and Brock Lesnar was a planned one and it might turn out to be the first move from WWE’s side to book the Lesnar vs. Shane McMahon match for Royal Rumble. Shane last wrestled against Undertaker at WrestleMania and since then, he has been restricted to the Authority figure role.

If this match does indeed go forward, it will be yet another cross-brand feud for WWE, which once again casts a shadow on the brand split. Also, now that Lesnar destroyed Orton, the believability of Shane McMahon being a threat to someone like Lesnar would be questionable.
