WWE Top Five rumors of the week and analysis: December 5th, 2016

WWE is apparently inspired by Conor’s double title win

The rumour mill was back in action this week, while WWE was busy building up the 2016 edition of TLC. The pay-per-view turned out to be a huge success story, due to various reasons and WWE now has momentum heading to Roadblock. Despite the importance of TLC, most of the major rumours that surfaced this past week focused elsewhere.

WWE’s WrestleMania plans, the potential split of a WWE couple, WWE trying to have their own Conor McGregor and many others featured on this week’s rumour list. As usual, we are going to list down the most interesting ones and take a closer look at them.

#5 Big Show set to make his return

Show could return soon

Big Show could make his return to the WWE programming in the coming week. The rumour was reported by Cageside Seats, and though Big Show is not bound to make an immediate impact on the ongoing storylines, his experience would come in handy for the company in the long run.

Earlier, there were rumours of a super match between Big Show and NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal, for WrestleMania 33, and it was also noted that Big Show could hang up his boots next year. If this is true, then returning before Royal Rumble makes perfect sense, as WWE would have time to build some momentum for him before he enters the big storyline.

#4 Free bird rule in SmackDown

Freebird rule might apply to the SmackDown titles

Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton captured the SmackDown tag team championships at TLC when they defeated Heath Slater and Rhyno. Their reign is bound to freshen up the entire division and just like with Monday Night Raw; WWE might roll out the free bird rule on SmackDown as well.

After winning their match, both Bray and Orton kept the titles on Luke Harper’s shoulder, and this could be an indication of how they plan to defend it.

Cageside Seats notes that the free bird rule would be implied in SmackDown as well and if that is the case, the WWE would have enough opportunities to rest either Orton or Bray without losing their presence on the show.

#3 Finn Balor vs. Seth Rollins in the works

Could go on to face Balor

The fans might expect a Seth Rollins vs. Triple H match at WrestleMania 33, after the potential of a feud between them. However, rumours from Inquisitr.com suggest that these plans have changed and WWE is looking to build a different match for Rollins. The rumoured plan now is to have a match between Finn Balor and Seth Rollins at the show.

Balor is expected to be fit in time for the big event, and though WWE wanted him to return in time for Royal Rumble, it won’t be happening. The plans for Triple H remain a big question mark if WWE is planning a Balor – Rollins feud for Mania.

#2 Emma – Zack Ryder break up

Relationship over?

Emma is all set to make her return to WWE programming with a new gimmick. Emma would be on the Monday Night Raw roster, while Zack Ryder, who Emma is reportedly dating, will be on SmackDown.

However, latest rumours reported by inquisitr.com suggest that the two are no longer seeing each other.

Emma unfollowing Ryder on Instagram was one of the major factors that triggered the rumour. While this might not have a significant impact on both their careers, considering what happened with Paige and Alberto Del Rio, we never know what a relationship could do to you in the wrestling business.

#1 Conor McGregor of WWE?

Double champion?

Roman Reigns will challenge Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship at Roadblock. Reigns already holds the United States Championship and could become a double champion if he defeats Kevin Owens. According to inquisitr.com, WWE is planning to make him a double champion just like Conor McGregor.

McGregor’s title win at UFC 205 had made huge headlines, and WWE would be looking to bank in on this. Their desire to bring in Conor for a show is also not a secret, and such a booking decision is bound to make people talk, which is exactly what the company would want.
