WWE's Summerslam Plans, Backstage notes on Cena- McMahon

Rusev was slated to face Kevin Owens and Cesaro in a Triple Threat match, but the management had other ideas

-WWE SummerSlam is less than one month away and much of the card is still unclear at this point. The Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar in a rematch from Wrestlemania 30 is expected to be the main event but beyond that, the rest of the show is still to be determined. According to a new report from Daily Wrestling News has an update on the mid-card portion of SummerSlam.

At this point, the “Bulgarian Brute” Rusev is expected to be involved in a match with Dolph Ziggler. Rusev recently took Ziggler out of action indefinitely with an assault on Monday Night Raw. While he is expected to be involved with Ziggler, there will likely be one added element to the match. The report mentions that the expected bout will feature Rusev and his newest female acquaintance Summer Rae teaming up to take on the tandem of the soon to be returning Ziggler and the “Ravishing Russian” Lana. If this turns out to be the case, it will be Lana’s first match since making her main roster debut. But facing Ziggler in some capacity was not always the intended direction for Rusev. The report goes on to mention that the original plan for a triple threat match was set to take place. The match would have seen Rusev take on both Cesaro and Kevin Owens, but the company obviously elected to go in a different direction.

-There was also talks of The Prime Time Players defending their WWE Tag Team Titles against New Day in some sort of a gimmick match, but it was scrapped off. It appears they will be doing some sort of multi-team match now.

-Meanwhile Vince McMahon reportedly thought John Cena was hilarious as Steven in Judd Apatow’s “Trainwreck” movie. Now with Hollywood success coming Cena’s way, most people in WWE expect Cena to be offered more movie roles now and it’s believed that WWE will continue to work with him to accommodate his schedule.
