BCCI to open talks with CSA regarding South Africa tour, Lorgat not invited: BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel

Haroon Lorgat appointment as CSA’s chief executive has led to a cold war between BCCI and CSA

Sanjay Patel has revealed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sent a formal invite to the Cricket South Africa (CSA) president Chris Nenzani to come over to India for a discussion about the issues hindering the progress of India’s tour of South Africa later this year.

Speaking to PTI, Patel said: “I have sent a formal invitation to the CSA president to come to India for a detailed discussion regarding the series. The dates of the proposed meeting is yet to be chalked out but the venue will either be Mumbai or Chennai. Once CSA informs us on the schedule of the president, we will announce the date of the meeting.”

While CSA would welcome BCCI’s proposal to solve the existing concerns between the two cricket boards in an amicable way, they would be disconcerted to know that the BCCI has not yet changed its stance over the appointment of Haroon Lorgat as the chief executive of CSA.

The brusque manner in which Patel replied, when asked if Haroon Lorgat will also present in the meeting said it all.

The BCCI secretary said: “No.The invitation has only been extended to the president of the Cricket South Africa.”

He added: “I had specifically asked the CSA officials as to who was the person in their board that decided on schedule and itinerary of India’s tour. In a bilateral series, the consent of both boards is important while drawing up the schedule.”
