Arvind Bhat advances to the quarterfinals of Yonex Dutch Open

15th seeded Indian shuttler Arvind Bhat defeated unseeded Gabriel Ulldahl of Sweden 21-14 21-18 to advance to the Quarterfinals of the men’s singles category in the Yonex Dutch Open 2013 in Almere, Netherlands.

Arvind Bhat, who is currently the World No. 80 defeated the World No. 103 Swedish shuttler in the 3rd round match which lasted for just 31 minutes.

Arvind started the first game with a bang as he took a strong 5 points lead in the initial part of that game. Bhat, who was leading 11-6 at the mid game interval of the first game took the next two points and further increased his lead to 13-6. After that, it was all Bhat in the first game.

The second game was a lot more evenly contested as both the players were fighting hard for each and every point. Bhatt started the game quite well as he took the first three points in the game but then Gabriel took the next 3 points to make the scores 3 all.

Bhat, who was leading by smallest of the margins at the mid game interval of the second game took a strong 4 points lead after that but Gabriel was not ready to give up as he made a strong comeback to make the scores 18-18 but at this crucial stage Bhat’s experience proved vital as he took the next 3 points to wrap up the game 21-18.

Arvind Bhatt will now play the World No. 92 Wei Nan of Hong Kong in the Quarterfinals of this tournament. Wei Nan has already stunned the 5th seed and World No. 45 Henri Hurskainen of Sweden in the first round.
