Red Bull announce first Flugtag competition in India

New Delhi, 23rd May 2014: Over the years we have seen dupattas of leading heroines fly away right before the hero’s dashing entry; Rajni’s punches making villains and cars fly hundreds of feet high in the sky, all thanks to our years and years of grounding in Bollywood’s Indian Physics. But why let filmi heroes have all the fun? Now watch India’s aeronautical wonders launch their ‘yaans’this year.

The world’s wildest homemade, human-powered flying craft competition -- Red Bull Flugtag -- is all set to make its debut in India as it comes to the land of gardens and technology, Bengaluru! On September 28th 2014 at the Sankey Tank, our countrymen will take off using handmade flying machines that battle with gravity to see who can soar the furthest (without wetting themselves, and yes, pun intended).

Flugtag is German for ‘flying day’ and is pronounced ‘FloogTaag’ (and don’t act like you said it right the first time! Most of us didn’t).

To take part in Red Bull Flugtag, you don't have to be an expert in aeronautics. Crafts will be judged on 3 parameters: Flight distance, creativity of the build and showmanship (or as the cool kids call it, swag). So, aspiring aviators please apply now: Step into the cockpit of your very own craft - chappals, cattle, cartoon characters and even saas-bahus will soar high above the city of Bengaluru.

An elite list of 40 teams, composed of four people each, will be selected to put their ingenuity and courage to the test. The brave and brainy will take the great flying leap off an over 20 foot-high flight deck into the water below at Sankey Tank, Bengaluru.

We’d also love to have your organization send in a team entry too! Register here by 23rd July to receive your own entry kit.

Since its debut in Austria in 1991, Red Bull Flugtag has travelled the globe, from Miami to Marseille and Sao Paolo to Sydney. Now it reaches the land of flying jeeps, Rajnikanth and sonekichidiya. Stay tuned for the climax!
