Rock climbing World Cup to be hosted by Navi Mumbai

India's best climbers will have a chance to compete alongside the world's best on home turf

The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cup of Rock Climbing will be hosted by Navi Mumbai from May 13 to 16 at the CIDCO Exhibition Center, in Vashi. The World Cup will feature the likes of World No.1 and winner of the last three World Cups Shauna Coxsey, No.2 Akiyo Noguchi and three-time World Cup winner, No.3 and two-time World Cup winner Rustam Gelmanov.

These athletes will provide the Mumbai crowd with an amazing display of skill and technique of the sport. Apart from them, 150-200 men and women, the world's best climbers will be in Navi Mumbai competing at the four-day international event in the discipline of bouldering. As host nation, India's best climbers will have a chance to compete alongside the world's best on home turf.

Franco Linhares, president of the World Cup organising committee, said in a release on Wednesday, "We are very proud to have the opportunity to conduct the World Cup in India and are looking forward to a great tournament."

"It is a privilege to have some of the best climbers from across the globe compete in India for the first time at an event of such magnitude. We would like to urge the people of Mumbai to come out and watch, support and be a part of this World Cup."
