The debate rages on as to who is the best world champion

Welcome to today's AEW News Roundup, where we look at the most newsworthy events around Tony Khan's company.

We will start the coverage with a WWE legend and former champion saying Kenny Omega better than Roman Reigns. Sammy Guevara won the TNT Championship this week on AEW Dynamite against Miro but he didn't get any time to celebrate as a former NXT star immediately laid out a challenge to him.

A wrestling personality believes AEW Chief Branding Officer Brandi Rhodes is to blame for Cody Rhodes getting booed by fans. AEW announced the participants for next week's Casino Ladder Match for the number one contender for the AEW World Championship . We finish the roundup with a WCW star stating that AEW reportedly passing over Braun Strowman was a mistake.

Let's jump into it.

#5 Chris Jericho calls AEW World Champion Kenny Omega better than Roman Reigns

Kenny Omega was ranked as the number one wrestler of the year in the PWI Top 500 over Roman Reigns, who came in second place. This sparked a huge debate online as to which world champion deserved the top spot.

Chris Jericho invited PWI Editor Kevin McElvaney and Senior Writer Al Castle to his podcast Talk is Jericho, where Le Champion gave his opinion on why he believes Omega deserves the top spot.

"I don't think Roman had as many great matches as Kenny did. Just by proxy of what WWE is and what AEW is and like you said, combine that with what he is doing in Mexico and The Impact stuff. And that’s kind of Kenny’s gimmick. And Roman might have a little bit more on the character department where Kenny has really pulled that up as well with Don Callis. So to me, I think you picked it right. Kenny is number one and I think Roman is number two," said Chris Jericho.

#4 Bobby Fish reveals why he challenged AEW TNT Champion Sammy Guevara

Sammy Guevara brought an end to Miro's unbeaten singles run in AEW as the Spanish God defeated him on AEW Dynamite in Rochester to capture his maiden championship in All Elite Wrestling.

Former Undisputed Era member Bobby Fish didn't wait long to lay down a challenge to the young star and a match for the title was accepted by Sammy shortly after.

Bobby Fish stated on Busted Open Radio why he laid out the challenge to Guevara. He said that 'fortune favors the brave' and believes the TNT Championship and his moustache would go well.

“I’m home watching AEW just like everybody else. And I see this thing go down, and I’m thinking to myself, ‘okay, fortune favors the bold. And that title, and this mustache, would look friggin’ fantastic together. I’m like, ‘listen, I can sit on my hands here and do nothing or I could put my name in the ring, so to speak, and see what happens. So that’s what I did. That’s the plan, man. Like I said, man, I looked at that title and I got this mustache – they would look great together, and the only way to take that from him is to go and take it from him. So that’s what we’re doing,” said Bobby Fish (H/T - WrestlingInc)

#3 Jim Cornette blames Brandi Rhodes for causing AEW fans to boo Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes was booed heavily on his return to in-ring action at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam as Malakai Black, the heel in the feud, came out on top to great fanfare.

The American Nightmare was one of the biggest babyfaces when AEW started, but his pompous character of late has been drawing the ire of crowds. Wrestling legend Jim Cornette believes the first-ever TNT champion's wife Brandi accompanying him to the ring is bringing in a lot of heat for Cody Rhodes.

"I don't know if it's not that he can't be a babyface or just that for whatever reason the start and stop, come and go booking whenever he gets a gig that he wants more like a reality show or a game show or whether his almost universally dislikable wife trying to shoehorn herself into things she's not prepared for or wanted in. She was a babyface, then she was a heel, then she had a faction, then she didn't, then she's peeking in the window at everything going on," Jim Cornette said. "All of those things, the fans of AEW like the other vice presidents because they are all in and they're all there but Cody comes and goes if he's not got something else better to do in his mind. I think he could be a good babyface with somebody booking him like one and not giving him a retinue of minions led by his wife that nobody wants to see on television."

#2 AEW announces participants for No.1 Contender's Ladder Match

The AEW Dynamite Second Anniversary show will feature a seven-man ladder match to determine the No.1 Contender for Kenny Omega's World Championship.

During Friday's AEW Rampage in Rochester, the company announced six huge names for the ladder match. Jon Moxley, Lance Archer, PAC, Orange Cassidy, Matt Hardy, and Andrade El Idolo will battle it out for the opportunity.

As is the case with all AEW matches with the 'Casino' gimmick, the seventh member will be the Joker. In other words, it will be a mystery entrant. There is no news or speculation on who could show up.

There are several directions that AEW could go in with respect to the mystery entrant. Tony Khan has not been shy in pulling out surprises, especially since Dynamite got back on the road with many huge stars making their debuts in the past few months.

The likes of Buddy Matthews and Bronson Reed are still free agents, and the possibility of an IMPACT Wrestling star like Moose or Rich Swann making an appearance remains to be seen, considering their history with Kenny Omega.

The best case scenario for everyone involved, including the fans, would be Hangman Adam Page's return. The Millennial Cowboy has been absent from AEW since the Elite viciously attacked him.

Although he's moved down the rankings and lost his title shot in the 10-man elimination tag team match alongside Dark Order a few weeks ago, this would immediately help him to get another opportunity at Kenny Omega and the AEW World Title.

#1 Former WCW star Disco Inferno believes AEW passing up on Braun Strowman is a mistake

Braun Strowman is one of the biggest names released by WWE in the modern era, and links to AEW did not take too long to surface.

However, it has been reported that the former Universal Champion could be headed to IMPACT Wrestling instead, as AEW isn't too high on him. Disco Inferno believes it was a mistake.

The former WCW star stated on the Keepin' It 100 podcast that wrestling is about characters and looks and Strowman is a bigger deal than AEW's latest signings, Adam Cole and Ruby Soho.

"I think it's good for IMPACT as they are at their lowest point, thanks to the help of Tony Khan, who won the Booker of the Year award. Speaking of which the other interesting news that came out was that AEW didn't have a meeting with Braun Strowman. Apparently, he's good not enough for the high standards of Tony Khan. Wrestling is not about the moves or matches but the crowds and the reactions. Strowman was a bigger deal than Adam Cole and Ruby Riott (Soho)," said Disco Inferno.
