5 children who work with their fathers in AEW

Several wrestlers are currently working with their children in different promotions, including AEW.

Over the past few years, the wrestling world has seen many second-generation stars. Only a few of them had the privilege of working with their parents, either on-screen or backstage.

One clear example is Rey Mysterio and his son Dominik in WWE. Since making his debut last year, Dominik has formed a tag team with his legendary father. They even became the first-ever father-son Tag Team Champions in WWE history.

Likewise, a few AEW Stars are currently working with their fathers in Tony Khan's company. Some of these fathers have formed stables with their children. Others, however, work in other backstage roles.

Here are five fathers who work with their children in AEW.

#5. AEW Star Billy Gunn – Colten Gunn

Billy Gunn is a legend in the wrestling business. His eldest son, Colten, is also a wrestler.

Gunn kicked off his career in the mid-1980s. After wrestling in different promotions for a few years, he joined WWE in 1993. The 57-year-old spent 11 years in Vince McMahon's company, where he won several titles, including the Intercontinental Championship and the Tag Team Championships. Following his departure from WWE in 2004, Gunn wrestled in a few promotions before returning to WWE in 2012 to spend three more years.

In 2019, Gunn entered the WWE Hall of Fame as a member of D-Generation X. That same year, he joined AEW as a coach. Although he is now 57 years old, he is also an active in-ring competitor in AEW. Gunn is currently wrestling side-by-side with his son Colten.

Colten was born in May 1991 and is now 30 years old. Following his graduation from college, Colten worked in the construction business for a short period. He then decided to give pro-wrestling a shot.

Colten Gunn signed with AEW in 2020. Since then, he became a member of the Gunn Club, led by his father. In his debut match, Colten teamed up with his father and brother, Austin, to defeat BSHP King, Joey O'Riley, and Sean Maluta.

Billy Gunn's eldest son recently revealed that his debut match is his favorite AEW moment so far.

"Mine would probably be our first match together. Like that was just crazy. It finally got done and we're standing there with our hands raised and I'm looking and I'm like 'I just had a match with my dad!'. Like my first match ever was on AEW Dark and I was just like trying to take it in but trying to figure out what the hell just happened," he said on My Mom's Basement with Robbie Fox.

The Gunn Club recently defeated Anthony Bennett, Leon St. Giovanni, and Ray Jaz on AEW to remain undefeated in tag team action.

#4. AEW Star Billy Gunn – Austin Gunn

Like his brother Colten, Austin Gunn is also a member of the Gunn Club, founded by their father, Billy Gunn. The 27-year-old AEW Star started his wrestling training after graduating from college. Although he earned a degree in elementary education, Austin knew he wanted to pursue a wrestling career.

"Our deal was if you graduate college you can do whatever you want. My youngest, Austin, came to me the day before graduation (Rollins College) and said I want to give this a shot. I went 'oh I thought I dodged it,'" Billy Gunn told Spectrum News. "The bad part is, he is really good," he added.

Austin Gunn was the first of Billy Gunn's sons to compete inside the squared circle. He joined AEW in January 2020 after spending a few months wrestling in other promotions. The 27-year-old directly became his father's tag team partner. Colten later joined them to complete the Gunn Club.

Before joining AEW, Austin thought about joining WWE's performance center. In an interview with Talk is Jericho, Austin revealed what his father thought of the idea.

"So obviously the relationship with WWE and my dad has been rocky, I guess, up and down, up and down, up and down. Obviously, this came up, and I was like, 'What do you think about the Performance Center?' He goes, 'I don’t want you to lose your love for wrestling that you have right now by going there and then them having you turn into that Performance Center, follow directions. You need to be this instead of me being just free spoken and just express myself naturally.' So it was a discussion that we had, but we tried everything to not go there," Austin said.

Austin recently teamed up with his father and brother to defeat Anthony Bennett, Leon St. Giovanni, and Ray Jaz on AEW Dark.

#3. AEW Star Arn Anderson – Brock Anderson

After a long legendary wrestling career, Arn Anderson joined AEW in 2019. He became Cody Rhodes' on-screen personal advisor and the company's head coach. Anderson's son, Brock, also signed with AEW earlier this year.

Brock Anderson made his first AEW appearance last June on Dynamite as he became a new member of the Nightmare Family. The 24-year-old made his in-ring debut on the June 18 episode of AEW Dynamite, teaming up with Cody to defeat Aaron Solow and Q. T. Marshall.

In an interview with DAZN last July, Arn Anderson disclosed that he felt proud watching his son make his pro-wrestling debut.

"It would be easy for me to try to play a hard a** on this and go, 'Oh well, business as usual.' When it’s your son out there, he probably had not enough training yet to be under those circumstances, and I was nervous for him. I was more nervous than he was. He actually was pretty solid all day long. But to see him have his first day in a business that I have loved since I was eight years old — and I tell people, it’s the greatest way to make a living on the earth, it really is. To see him enjoy himself and hold his own and do well. I am a proud papa," he said.

Brock Anderson has competed in eight matches so far in AEW. The 24-year-old won six of them. Earlier this month, Arn Anderson's son teamed up with Lee Johnson to defeat Cameron Stewart and Luke Curtis on AEW Dark.

#2. AEW Star Taz – Hook

AEW Star Taz is a household name in the wrestling industry. He kicked off his career in the late 1980s and joined ECW in the early 1990s. Taz became one of the biggest stars of ECW, winning many championships.

Following his successful ECW run, Taz joined WWE. He made his WWE debut in 2000 and spent nearly nine years in the company, winning a few championships. The 53-year-old also served as a color commentator for several years in WWE before his departure in 2009.

Taz, who retired from in-ring competition in 2006, then joined TNA. He spent nearly six years in the promotion, playing several non-wrestling roles, before leaving in 2015. Four years later, the 53-year-old joined AEW.

In addition to his role as a color commentator in AEW, Taz is the manager and leader of a stable called Team Taz. The group includes Ricky Starks, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Taz's son, Hook.

Hook is Team Taz's trainee. The 22-year-old has made several appearances on AEW television. He is currently training to become a wrestler.

Surprisingly, Taz's son has a fanbase despite not competing in any matches so far. His Team Taz partner Ricky Stark commented on Hook's popularity during an interview with the WrestleTalk Podcast.

"I think it’s pretty cool for the fact that Hook hasn’t really said much of anything and he hasn’t wrestled at all. It’s such a crazy thing to think about because he hasn’t done anything, and yet he has this groundswell for him. But that only helps to add the mystique of Hook. What is he about? How does he sound? How does he wrestle? I like his mysterious, cool, James Dean type feel he has going on," he said.

Taz's son was in Powerhouse Hobbs' corner when he squared off against CM Punk on Rampage. Hobbs lost the match. Hook later had a stare-down with Punk. It sparked speculation that the 22-year-old could soon make his in-ring debut against the returning legend.

#1. AEW Star Dustin Rhodes – Dakota Runnels

Dustin Rhodes had a long and successful career before joining AEW. He kicked off his wrestling career in 1988. In the following years, he wrestled in different promotions, including WCW, TNA, and WWE.

In 2019, the 52-year-old joined AEW as a coach and in-ring competitor. He made his AEW debut competing against his half-brother Cody Rhodes at the 2019 Double Or Nothing pay-per-view. After an epic match, Cody defeated Dustin.

Dustin and Cody aren't the only members of the Rhodes family in AEW. Cody's wife, Brandi, also works for Tony Khan's company. In addition to being an in-ring competitor, Brandi Rhodes is the company's Chief Brand Officer (CBO).

Dustin's daughter, Dakota, also works with him in AEW. Dakota is Dustin's only child from his first marriage with former WWE Superstar Terri Runnels. She joined her father and uncle in Tony Khan's company to work as a photographer. The 27-year-old is usually present at AEW events to capture the best moments through her lens. Dakota also does photoshoots for AEW Stars.
