P.V. Sindhu wins Indonesian International Challenge

The year 2011 is turning out to be a great year for teenage badminton sensation P.V. Sindhu. The 16 year old Sindhu, supported by Olympic Gold Quest, won the Indonesia International Badminton Challenge earlier today at Surabaya. What made this victory even more special was the fact that Sindhu thrashed the tournament top seed and World No. 35 Fransiska Ratanasari of Indonesia in front of her home crowd in straight sets 21-16 21-11 in the finals. The victory was sweet revenge for Sindhu as she had lost to Fransiska in the Indian Open last year in a thrilling 3 setter.

Olympic Gold Quest sponsored the entire trip of Sindhu and her personal coach for the Indonesia International Challenge. Sindhu, who trains at the Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad, beat 12th seed Tee Jing Yi of Malaysia 21-8 21-12 in the semis and 8th seed Zhang Beiwen 21-23 21-14 21-19 in the quarterfinals. Sindhu had to win 7 matches to finally emerge as the tournament winner. She had recently also won the Maldives Open and a Bronze medal at the Under-19 Asian Junior Championships. This has been Sindhu’s first year on the senior circuit and OGQ is confident that with the right kind of training and support, she will soon be the next big thing in Indian badminton.
