Looking at Giannis Antetokounmpo's stats in the campaign where he won the MVP-DPOY double

Giannis Antetokounmpo's 2019-20 campaign saw him become only the third player in NBA history to win the Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season.

He joined the elite company of Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon, the other two players to have done so.

The 2019-20 NBA season was Giannis's second-consecutive MVP season, making him one of the 12 people to have ever achieved the feat. Nikola Jokic has since joined the list.

At the time, his average of 29.5 points per game and 13.6 rebounds per game were career highs, and his average of 5.6 assists per game was the second-highest of his career. Giannis has since surpassed his scoring average, but 13.6 remains the most rebounds he has averaged in a season.

That season, Giannis led the league in points in the paint, averaging 17.5 PITP per game. He also held the single-game record for most points in the paint that season, with 34.

Giannis Antetokounmpo's defensive stats in particular stood out that season.

In 2019-20, despite only averaging 1 block per game and 1 steal per game, Giannis logged a defensive rating of 97.4, the highest in the league. Giannis also logged the highest defensive win share at 5.0.

Giannis' DFG% (the percentage an opponent shoots when defended by a player), of 36.9% was also the lowest among anyone with at least 40 games played. His DFG% for shots taken within six feet was also the lowest (min. 40 games).

Giannis also led the league in Defensive Box Plus/Minus that season, his second-consecutive season doing so. At +11.5, he also led the league in overall Box Plus/Minus, a career-high.

With his net rating, scoring, leadership, Milwaukee Bucks' 56-17 record, and a first-seed berth in the Eastern Conference, Giannis managed to take home the MVP award, despite being in a tight race with LeBron James.

In the end, Giannis beat out LeBron by a staggering 69 first-place votes and had more impressive stats across the board.

However, the Bucks suffered a 4-1 loss to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Semifinals after beating the Orlando Magic in the first round. Giannis Antetokounmpo, on the other hand, may have cemented his place in the Hall of Fame after winning the NBA championship in 2021 and being named to the 75th Anniversary Team.

Basketball Reference puts Giannis' Hall of Fame probability at 86.6%.
