Kel'el Ware came into this season as a potential lottery selection for the 2023 NBA draft. After a rocky freshman year, Ware has announced that he's going to enter the NCAA's transfer portal.

Ware has the tools to be an intriguing big man when at the NBA level. He spent the 2022-23 NCAA season as a member of the Oregon Ducks and was viewed by many as a potential top 10 draft selection.

The 7-foot, 210-pound center is an intriguing talent. Ware has the potential to be a promising floor spacer with a developing outside shot. He also has the length and defensive awareness to be a gifted shot blocker. Coming into the season, Ware was the No. 8-ranked high school basketball prospect in ESPN's Top 100 and participated in the McDonald's All American Game.

Oregon freshman Kel'el Ware has entered the transfer portal.

There was plenty of intrigue when it came to the future status of Oregon freshman Kel'el Ware. Despite a disappointing freshman season, many believed he would test the waters for the 2023 NBA draft.

Ware is oozing with potential but struggled to generate consistent minutes with the Ducks throughout his freshman year. He averaged 6.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in just 15.8 minutes per game.

It seems as if Ware is making the smart decision, as he's an unfinished product who will need plenty of playing time before a jump to the NBA. Ware will immediately become the biggest name to hit the transfer portal ahead of the 2023-24 NCAA season.

Oregon freshman Kel’el Ware is entering the transfer portal, he confirms to ESPN. Ranked No. 8 in the ESPN 100 coming out of high school, Ware averaged 6.6 points and 4.1 rebounds this season in mostly a reserve role. No. 5 center and No. 35 overall in ESPN’s NBA draft rankings.

If Kel'el Ware can end up in a spot that allows him to get valuable playing experience, he will be a popular name as a potential breakout candidate for the 2024 NBA draft. Despite showing upside as a floor spacer, Ware shot just 45.7%, including 27.3% from 3-point range.

NBA scouts have questioned Ware's motor, something that could have prevented him earning extended minutes for the Ducks this year.

Oregon (21-15) struggled throughout the year, especially with backcourt play. If Ware can end up with a team that has a promising floor general, it could allow his talents to shine, allowing him to improve his NBA draft stock.
